Summary

The primary purpose of the Maintenance Assistant is to assist in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Maintenance Department in accordance with current, federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, and as directed by the Administrator, to ensure the facility is maintained in a safe and comfortable manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate maintenance services with other departments and report to the Administrator as necessary.
• Assist in establishing a preventive maintenance program.
• Repair facility/resident property; coordinate with outside vendors if repairs cannot be performed in-house.
• Identify, evaluate, and classify routine maintenance functions, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
• Inspect storage and utility areas for upkeep and supply control.
• Participate in facility inspections and develop correction plans for deficiencies.
• Recommend adjustments in maintenance services based on economic conditions.
• Maintain confidentiality of resident information and report violations.
• Supervise safety and fire prevention programs, inspecting work areas regularly.
• Ensure safety equipment and supplies are used and maintained properly.
• Develop and implement waste disposal policies and ensure proper handling of infectious wastes.
• Perform routine rounds to check equipment and ensure operational efficiency.
• Label or tag contaminated equipment before repair or decontamination.
• Handle emergencies and ensure proper disposal of medical waste.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems such as boilers, compressors, generators, and plumbing.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.
• Proficiency in English.
• Ability to make independent decisions and communicate effectively.

Physical Demands

• Ability to move throughout the workday.
• Work effectively with residents and staff, including those who are ill or disabled.
• Meet health requirements including a medical exam.
• Ability to lift and move at least 25 pounds and assist in emergency evacuations.
