Job summary

Columbus Water Works through Westaff Staffing Agency is seeking an Apprentice Maintenance for hands-on mechanical and grounds work at our Columbus, GA facilities. You will assist maintenance staff with valves, pumps and general mechanical tasks, perform cleaning, painting and basic repairs, and work in varying weather conditions.

A High School diploma or GED is required, with the ability to read safety rules and write routine reports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; knowledge of maintenance and manual tasks.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.

Responsibilities

• Assist maintenance personnel with rebuilding valves, pumps, motors or other mechanical equipment.
• Repair and replace broken pipe inside plant grounds and river pump station.
• Clean, prime and paint mechanical equipment and buildings; perform janitorial services at plant facilities.
• Clean and wash trucks, basins, tanks and equipment as required.
• Climb heights up to 165 feet and work in various weather conditions.
