Maintenance Apprentice

Location: Sumas, WA Type: Full Time Department: Maintenance

Key responsibilities include:

• Identifying and correcting all unsafe conditions and completing safety assessments of all work prior to starting any job
• Working with other Mechanics and Electricians to resolve issues
• Assist in changing pumps, motors, gearboxes and other components as needed.
• Ability to learn how to run a forklift, scissor lift, boom lift and overhead crane when needed.
• Able and willing to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Responsibility & accountability for being compliant with all IKO rules, policies and SOPs.
• Assist with housekeeping. Sweeping, shoveling, and cleaning up areas, etc.

Skills & Qualifications Required:

• Highschool diploma or GED required
• Ability to learn, take direction, and follow through on assigned tasks.
• Punctual and reliable attendance.
• Must have ability to operate a computer.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds on a routine basis.
• Must be able to access equipment for repair and maintenance, this may require crawling, bending, lying underneath equipment, crouching.
• Requires manual dexterity.

Apprenticeship Requirements:

• Capability to retain both classroom and practical knowledge.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge through written and practical exams.
• Understand it is a 3-5 year process to achieve journeyman level completion.
• Required to purchase tool and the beginning and throughout apprenticeship.
• Personal drive and resilience to complete lengthy apprenticeship.
