Job Title: Director of Maintenance and Operations

Reports to: Chief Business Official

Work Year: Full Time - 223 days per year

Position Type: Classified Management

Position Summary

Brentwood Union School District is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Director of Maintenance and Operations to lead and coordinate the District’s maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial services, and facilities projects. Reporting directly to the Chief Business Official, this leadership position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, functional, and efficient learning environments across the District, including oversight of capital improvements, modernization efforts, and safety compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Direct and manage district-wide maintenance and operations programs, including custodial and grounds services
• Oversee assigned capital outlay, modernization, and construction projects
• Evaluate and provide input on hiring, training, and supervising maintenance and operations personnel
• Plan and conduct staff development and safety training programs
• Inspect facilities for safety, code compliance, and repair needs
• Coordinate and communicate with school site leaders and district departments to resolve operational needs
• Prepare cost estimates, recommend materials/equipment, and monitor project bids
• Work closely with contractors, engineers, architects, and consultants on district projects
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
• Oversee the facility use permitting process and coordinate logistics for special events
• Perform other duties as assigned
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in building construction, maintenance, or related trades (covering at least two skilled crafts), including a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory or management capacity
• License: Valid California Driver’s License required
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. College coursework in architecture, engineering, construction technology, or related field preferred

Physical Requirements / ADA

Must be able to stand, walk, sit, lift up to 50 lbs. (occasionally up to 75 lbs.), bend, twist, reach, push/pull, climb ladders, balance, kneel, crouch, squat, grasp, and manipulate tools. Requires adequate vision and hearing to safely perform job duties.
