Position Overview

We are seeking an innovative and results-driven Maintenance & Engineering Manager to join the Sealed Air Medical business segment. This leadership role offers the opportunity to make a significant operational impact through complete ownership of facility infrastructure, capital equipment projects, and the direct management of our skilled maintenance craft team.

The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise—specifically in electrical design, controls, and industrial automation—with strong people leadership to manage existing asset upgrades and implement cutting-edge manufacturing technologies.

Key Responsibilities

The Maintenance & Engineering Manager ensures the peak reliability of machinery and facility infrastructure supporting a 24/7 production operation. Acting as the site lead for facilities engineering, you will develop, execute, and manage capital expenditure (CapEx) projects from concept through to commission.

Primary Duties Include
  • Project & Budget Management: Lead all facets of capital projects, including budgeting, scheduling, equipment specification, design, procurement, installation, and startup. Coordinate seamlessly with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and contractors to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Team Leadership: Direct, mentor, and develop the site maintenance team, cultivating a proactive culture centered on safety, total productive maintenance (TPM), and minimal equipment downtime.
  • Process Automation & Systems Integration: Design, configure, and troubleshoot industrial control systems, networking infrastructure (including VLANs for secure PLC connections), and data aggregation software. Interface process data with core business intelligence systems (ERP/MES).
  • Equipment Optimization: Design, install, and optimize manufacturing equipment, with a specific focus on extrusion systems. Proactively identify, recommend, and execute upgrades for obsolete machinery, controls, and legacy programs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate and pioneer new technologies to drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Advanced Problem Solving: Apply rigorous engineering principles to solve complex, unprecedented technical challenges where no established playbook exists.
Qualifications & Technical Skills

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess a strong sense of ownership, excellent collaborative skills, and a proven track record of creative technical problem-solving.

Educational & Experience Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical design and project engineering within a manufacturing environment.
Technical Competencies
  • Regulatory Compliance: Comprehensive working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, and the National Electrical Safety Code. (CE and UKCA compliance experience is a strong plus).
  • Design Software: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, DraftSight, or SolidWorks Electrical) for interpreting, modifying, and developing complex electrical schematics.
  • Controls & Power Distribution: Extensive experience programming and troubleshooting control systems (PLCs, HMIs), servo drives, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and power distribution systems (480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, 24VDC).
  • Automation Software: Mastery of industrial automation platforms such as RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000 Logix Designer, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, and View Designer.
  • Industrial Networking & Data: Strong understanding of industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus) and communication protocols (OPC DA, OPC UA, MQTT, REST) for process data historians and visualization.
Preferred Attributes
  • Direct experience in plastics manufacturing, packaging, or extrusion processes.
  • Prior experience operating within the Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, or regulated healthcare manufacturing industries.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead interdisciplinary teams.
