Job summary

Sealed Air Corporation in Illinois is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to support our Bubble and Foam Extrusion Plant. You will perform advanced electrical and mechanical maintenance, troubleshoot PLC systems, and ensure safety and production quality.

This role requires hands-on skills with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, CMMS software, and cross-functional teamwork. Shift: 2nd, Mon-Fri 3:00 PM–11:00 PM with weekend on-call.

Qualifications

  • 2-5+ years of hands-on experience in industrial maintenance or related field.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and control systems.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and schematic reading skills.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance experience.
  • Experience with bulk material handling equipment.
  • Technical degree preferred; high school diploma required.
  • Proficient with CMMS and Microsoft Office.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced electrical and mechanical maintenance on extrusion equipment.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, electrical circuits, and control panels in a manufacturing setting.
  • Calibrate instrumentation and conduct preventive maintenance inspections.
  • Install new equipment and modify existing systems as needed.
  • Rebuild critical components including hydraulic and pneumatic devices.
  • Maintain facility infrastructure and grounds for optimal operation.
  • Document activities and prepare technical reports with improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on continuous improvement.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies during on-call weekends.

Job Description

Shift: 2nd

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM with rotating weekend on-call responsibilities (every other weekend).

Pay Rate: $30-36 (commensurate with experience).

Shift differential: $1.00

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician with advanced PLC and controls expertise to support our state-of-the-art Bubble and Foam Extrusion Plant. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive troubleshooting abilities across electrical systems, mechanical processes, and pneumatic/hydraulic components. This role requires a safety-focused professional who can maintain critical manufacturing equipment with minimal supervision in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced electrical and mechanical maintenance on industrial extrusion equipment while adhering to safety protocols, quality standards, and production requirements
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex PLC systems, electrical circuits, and control panels in a manufacturing setting
  • Calibrate instrumentation and conduct preventative maintenance inspections on production machinery
  • Install new equipment and implement modifications to existing manufacturing systemsRebuild critical equipment components, including hydraulic systems, pneumatic devices, and mechanical assemblies
  • Maintain facility infrastructure and grounds to ensure optimal operational conditions
  • Take ownership of assigned equipment condition and performance metrics
  • Document maintenance activities and prepare detailed technical reports with improvement recommendations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and plant-wide goals
  • Respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies during assigned on-call weekends
Qualifications & Requirements
  • 2-5+ years of hands- on experience in industrial maintenance, manufacturing maintenance, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Allen- Bradley PLC systems, HMI interfaces, and industrial control systems.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills with the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Practical experience in maintaining and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Working knowledge of bulk material handling equipment (loaders, hoppers, vacuum systems).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two-year technical degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to use precision measurement tools.
  • Excellent problem- solving skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
  • Capable of frequently lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be comfortable working in non- climate-controlled industrial settings.
  • Able to safely climb ladders and stairs to access equipment at various heights.
  • Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools with precision.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience in plastic extrusion, foam manufacturing, or similar industrial processes.
  • Millwork, machine shop, and welding capabilities (MIG/TIG).
  • Familiarity with SAP maintenance modules or similar ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • NFPA 70E electrical safety certification.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and servo motors.
  • Background in industrial automation and robotics.
