Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
• Plan and coordinate plant shutdowns, including pre- and post-shutdown meetings and detailed maintenance work lists.
• Schedule manpower to ensure timely completion and supervise maintenance crew activities.
• Coordinate work with outside contractors and maintain production equipment parts inventory.
• Lead safety program administration including material handling, working at heights, hot work, and storm water compliance.
• Assist production teams in troubleshooting and resolving process and equipment issues.

Job Description

Shift: Morning

Pay Rate: $37.38

The Lead Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of facility infrastructure, grounds, and production machinery. This role combines hands-on mechanical expertise with administrative leadership, including workforce scheduling, inventory management, and maintenance planning. The Lead Mechanic plays a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program
• Plan and coordinate plant shutdowns, including:
• Conducting pre-and post-shutdown meetings
• Organizing detailed maintenance work lists
• Scheduling manpower to ensure timely completion
• Schedule and supervise maintenance crew activities and daily tasks
• Manage and maintain production equipment parts inventory
• Oversee and coordinate work performed by outside contractors
• Assist production teams in troubleshooting and resolving process and equipment issues
• Serve as the administrative lead for safety programs, including:
• Material Handling
• Working at Heights
• Hot Work
• Storm Water Compliance
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment
• Proven ability to lead maintenance teams and manage multiple priorities
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Technical Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret:
• Mechanical detail and assembly drawings
• Piping & Instrumentation (P&I) diagrams
• Pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
• Proficiency in:
• Bearing installation and alignment
• Pump repair and maintenance
• Roll bearing disassembly and reassembly
• Precision measurement (micrometers, verifying tolerance)
• Coupling alignment
• Strong troubleshooting skills in:
• Instrumentation (pressure, level, distance, proximity sensors, solenoids)
• Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
• Basic electrical systems
• Working knowledge of PLCs and drives
• Welding experience required
• Knowledge of proper rigging and lifting practices
• Strong organizational and time-management skills

Work Environment & Schedule

• Hourly position: schedule may include extended hours, weekends, and on-call responsibilities during shutdowns or emergency repairs
• Work performed in an industrial setting with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying environmental conditions
