Job Title: Maintenance

Salary Index: Maintenance Pay Band, $38,945 to $75,700http://fluco.org/human-resources-salary-scales/

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

SUMMARY

Assists in overall maintenance of the school property to ensure a condition of operating efficiency and excellence. Perform preventative, routine, and specialized maintenance and repairs to school division buildings, equipment, grounds, and related systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Examines school division facilities on a regular basis for the purposes of preventive maintenance;
  • Assists and performs building maintenance to include carpentry, electrical, flooring, HVAC, masonry, painting, plumbing, and roofing;
  • Performs routine and specialized tasks using a variety of hand tools, power tools, machinery, and equipment;
  • Maintains the inventory of division-owned tools, equipment, and supplies;
  • Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase;
  • Estimates cost of repair projects in terms of labor, material and overhead;
  • Research and use repair manuals, catalogs, electronic testing devices, measuring instruments, and tools to diagnose and repair as needed;
  • Completes maintenance assignments independently or as a part of a team;
  • Uses research and skills to anticipate and solve problems;
  • Completes assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Uses basic computer skills including web browser, email, and word processing;
  • Repairs and maintains buildings, equipment, grounds, and related systems in a safe and effective manner;
  • Assists with all aspects of inclement weather maintenance (snow, ice, storms) and school related emergencies as directed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Maintenance related experience preferred

Demonstrated experience in HVAC/Mechanical systems is strongly preferred; prioritized

Experience in Electrical systems is preferred

Related trade licenses or certifications (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, etc.)preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

High school diploma or GED equivalency.

Hold a valid Virginia driver's license.

Hold a valid trade license or certification (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, etc.)p referred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

12 month contract. Shifts may vary based on needs of the school and division.

EVALUATION Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
