Job summary

Graphic Packaging International in Chicago, IL is seeking a Maintenance Technician to install and repair electrical devices, perform preventative and predictive maintenance, and manage CMMS work orders.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair electrical devices within the plant.
  • Perform breakdown, preventative and predictive maintenance on production equipment.
  • Complete parts requisitions and work orders in the CMMS.
  • Disassemble and replace defective components; reassemble equipment.
  • Read and follow mechanical/electrical blueprints and schematics.

OPPORTUNITY:

We are a Food service folding carton manufacturing operation seeking candidates to join our Chicago, IL team. We’re recruiting for multiple positions so be sure you review all of our job postings. This job posting is for a Maintenance Technician with a pay range of $34.09 to $41.18/hour plus shift differential and progressive pay increases. JOB FUNCTIONS:

Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Installing and repairing all electrical devices within the plant.
  • Performing breakdown repairs, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, etc. on all production equipment, utilities, building/grounds, etc.
  • Completing parts requisitions, work orders, time sheets, in Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Electrician disassembles defective electrical equipment, replaces defective or worn parts, and reassembles equipment.
  • Responsible for replacing all fuses, light sockets, bulbs and switches within the facility.
  • Working independently and on teams.
  • Demonstrating safe work practices.
  • Use PLCs for routine troubleshooting.
  • Understand and complete all associated paperwork.
  • Adhere to preventative/predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Read and work from mechanical and electrical blueprints.
Safe Quality Food Responsibilities For All Employees
  • Follow all Plant rules, Processes, Hygiene, and Allergens procedures, related to production of Safe Quality Foods.
  • Report to person of authority to record any potentially unsafe conditions which may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF related procedures.
  • Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.
  • Follow all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
  • Report any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation.
Background / Experience / Skills
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English. Must have working knowledge of basic mechanical fundamentals. Perform tasks per instructions. Work well without supervision when needed
  • Must have experience in identifying basic hand tools. Printing industry experience a plus. Prior maintenance/electrical experience necessary. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of four years hands on experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair of high speed equipment.
  • Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software:
    • Basic working knowledge of machine tools: drill presses, welders, grinders.
    • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office
    • All types of machinery involved in the folding carton industry. Must have own tools needed to make mechanical and/or electrical repairs.
  • Must be flexible: Able to work overtime, other shifts, and Saturdays/Sundays when needed.
Education / Knowledge
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Schedule Requirements
  • Schedules are up to 8 or 12-hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off. However, employees must have the ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Some Departments/Jobs may run a M-F 8-hour Shift Schedule.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting or standing, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Physical and visual activities that are commonly associated* with the performance of the functions of this job:
    • Position is associated with pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, stretching and working in tight positions.
  • Physical demands commonly associated* with the performance of the functions of this job:
    • Must have physical coordination to operate fork lift (to remove and replace extremely heavy parts.
    • Must have the physical ability and coordination to operate machinery (Lathe, Grinder, Drill Press, Handsaw, etc...), used to make and repair parts.
    • Must have the physical ability and coordination to remove and replace parts from machinery. To be functional within position person should be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
    • Must have visual acuity at short distance to examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inside Conditions: Extremes of heat (100+ seasonal), humidity, working in tight areas, noise (from production machinery) and working with various oils, solvents and other related chemicals.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English. Must have working knowledge of basic mechanical fundamentals. Perform tasks per instructions. Work well without supervision when needed
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
