Orangepeople is seeking a seasoned Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer to lead architecture, installation, and maintenance of complex z/OS systems in ISV environments. You will drive upgrades, optimize performance, and innovate with SMP/E, z/OSMF, and IBM Utilities.

With 12+ years of experience, you will collaborate with top teams to deliver seamless system solutions, support enterprise initiatives, and elevate mainframe environments across projects.

Qualifications

• 12+ years as a Mainframe System Programmer in z/OS and ISV environments.
• Expert in configuring, installing, upgrading and maintaining mainframe systems.
• Experience with vendor software installations and performance improvements.

Responsibilities

• Perform system programming activities including SMP/E config and vendor installs.
• Perform OS upgrades and RSU maintenance via z/OSMF Workflow.
• Architect, install and configure complex z/OS environments and third-party software.
• Support standardization and new feature implementations.
• Assist storage, performance, capacity, security and networking teams from a z/OS view.
• Collaborate with Mainframe staff to enhance the environment.
• Help teammates solve problems and drive improvements.
• Identify system and process improvements for business initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform standard system programming activities, such as configuration, installation & maintenance using SMP/E, as well as vendor software installations, in the mainframe environment.
• Perform Operating System upgrades and RSU maintenance via z/OSMF Workflow.
• Advanced System Management: Architect, install, and configure highly complex z/OS environments and third-party software.
• Support Software Standardization and new Feature implementations.
• Support other teams: storage management, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, networking, and operating procedures from a z/OS perspective.
• Work with Mainframe System Programmers staff across tracks to enhance the mainframe environment.
• Assist team members in solving problems, driving innovative improvements, and making decisions.
• Identify and implement system and process improvements in the z/OS environment. Work with application support teams and other internal customers to facilitate business initiatives.

Experience level:

• 12+ years of professional experience as a Mainframe System Programmer in z/OS and ISVs.

Technical key skills (Mandatory skills):

• Expertise in performing SMP/E and Non-SMPE Installation of ISV products.
• Expertise in IBM and Broadcom Software product installation and Upgrades.
• Mastery of z/OS system commands, utilities, and automation tools.
• Operating system z/OS V2.5 upgrades or later with z/OSMF workflow execution.
• IODF, HCD Skillset to add new devices.
• Sysplex and config management (good to have).
• Fluent in JCL and IBM Utilities (IEBGENER/IEBCOPY/AMASPZAP/DFDSS).
• ISPF/TSO and other basics.
• Basic knowledge of REXX/CLIST.
• Designing project plans (upgrades, maintenance, decom) with a task list for all stakeholders and communicating the timelines with delivery and the customer.
• Formulate roadmaps with all prerequisites to achieve project completion.

• Participate in OP monthly team meetings and participate in team-building efforts.
• Contribute to OP technical discussions, peer reviews, etc.
• Contribute content and collaborate via the OP-Wiki/Knowledge Base.
• Provide status reports to OP Account Management as requested.
