Job summary

Capstone IT is seeking a Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer / AMI-Ops Automation Engineer to lead a critical migration from AF/OPERATOR to BMC AMI Ops Automation and to support the organization’s mainframe automation environment.

The role requires deep AMI Ops Automation experience, including installation, setup, upgrades, configuration, troubleshooting, and ongoing support in an enterprise mainframe setting.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on AMI Ops Automation installation, configuration, upgrades, troubleshooting and support.
• Experience migrating AF/OPERATOR to AMI Ops Automation in an enterprise mainframe environment.
• Strong SMP/E knowledge and mainframe software maintenance experience.
• Experience independently supporting vendor products from BMC, Broadcom, IBM, Rocket or similar mainframe software vendors.

Responsibilities

• Lead the migration from AF/OPERATOR to AMI Ops Automation.
• Install, configure, upgrade, maintain, and troubleshoot AMI Ops Automation.
• Analyze existing AF/OPERATOR automation and plan the transition to AMI Ops Automation.
• Own and support vendor-supplied mainframe products and coordinate with ISVs.
• Use SMP/E to install and maintain system software.
• Collaborate with BMC and other ISVs on upgrades and issues.
• Diagnose complex mainframe incidents and analyze diagnostic data.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning and DR events.
• Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical systems.

Job Description Summary

Capstone IT is helping our client to find a Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer / AMI-Ops Automation Engineer to lead a critical migration from AF/OPERATOR (afoper) to BMC AMI Ops Automation and provide ongoing support for the organization's mainframe automation environment.

The most important requirement is deep, hands-on AMI Ops Automation experience. This person needs to understand more than day-to-day use of the product—they should have experience installing, setting up, upgrading, configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting AMI Ops Automation in an enterprise mainframe environment.

The engineer will take significant ownership of vendor-supplied mainframe products, work directly with ISVs including BMC, Broadcom, IBM, and Rocket Software, and use SMP/E for software maintenance. The position also participates in 24/7 on-call support for critical mainframe systems.

The immediate priority is finding someone capable of helping the organization successfully migrate its existing AF/OPERATOR automation to AMI Ops Automation.

• Identify root causes and implement corrective/preventative actions.
• Support Sysplex environments.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution.
• Support DR setup, IPL testing, replication technologies, and DR events.
• Participate in the 24/7 on-call rotation supporting critical systems.
• Develop and maintain mainframe automation.
• Work independently while collaborating with the broader mainframe infrastructure team.

Qualifications

Must Have

• Experience setting up and upgrading AMI Ops Automation—not simply using it.
• Mainframe systems programming experience.
• Experience working with ISVs such as BMC, Broadcom, IBM, and/or Rocket.
• SMP/E knowledge.
• Ability to independently own technical problems and work with vendors.
• Willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies.
• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

• Sysplex experience.
• REXX/CLIST.
• Assembler and/or COBOL.
• IPL testing.
• Replication technologies.
