Optomi, in partnership with a global leader in technology services, is seeking an experienced Mainframe Storage SME to support enterprise-scale infrastructure and storage environments. This role focuses on mainframe storage administration, data management, platform reliability, and modernization initiatives across a complex technology environment.

• 10+ years of mainframe storage administration experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for mainframe storage environments, supporting day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, optimization, and long-term platform strategy.
• Administer DASD and tape storage environments, ensuring availability, performance, capacity, and data integrity.
• Work within z/OS and z/OS (MVS) environments and troubleshoot storage and systems issues.
• Manage TSO, ISPF, JCL, VSAM, ISMF, JES2, catalogs, datasets, and related components.
• Support DFSMS, DFSMSHSM, DFSMSDSS, DFSMSDFP, DFSMSRMM environments.
• Use CA products, FDR, and OMEGAMON XE for storage management, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Analyze space abends, SMF/Dcollect data, BVIR reports to identify root causes and prevent issues.
• Participate in data migration, storage replication, and modernization initiatives.
• Identify risks and recommend improvements for performance, resiliency, security, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, security, and client teams to deliver solutions and maintain service levels.

This role will focus on mainframe storage administration, data management, platform reliability, and modernization initiatives across a complex technology environment.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as a subject matter expert for mainframe storage environments, supporting day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, optimization, and long-term platform strategy.
• Administer and support DASD and tape storage environments, ensuring availability, performance, capacity, and data integrity.
• Work extensively within z/OS and z/OS (MVS) environments and troubleshoot complex storage and systems issues.
• Manage and support TSO, ISPF, JCL, VSAM, ISMF, JES2, catalogs, datasets, and related mainframe components.
• Support DFSMS, DFSMSHSM, DFSMSDSS, DFSMSDFP, and DFSMSRMM environments.
• Utilize tools and technologies such as CA products, FDR, and OMEGAMON XE for storage management, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Analyze space abends, SMF/Dcollect data, BVIR reports, and other system information to identify root causes and prevent recurring issues.
• Participate in data migration, storage replication, and modernization initiatives.
• Identify potential platform risks and recommend improvements related to performance, resiliency, security, and operational efficiency.
• Partner with engineering, infrastructure, security, and client teams to deliver solutions and maintain strong service levels.

What they’re Looking For

• 10+ years of Mainframe Storage Administration experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience with DASD and tape storage solutions.
• Solid knowledge of z/OS and z/OS (MVS) fundamentals.
• Strong working knowledge of TSO, ISPF, JCL, VSAM, ISMF, JES2, catalogs, and datasets.
• Hands‑on experience with the DFSMS suite, including DFSMSHSM, DFSMSDSS, DFSMSDFP, and DFSMSRMM.
• Experience with CA and FDR storage management products and OMEGAMON XE.
• Experience troubleshooting space abends and analyzing SMF, Dcollect, and BVIR reports.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify both immediate issues and potential future risks.
• Comfortable collaborating with technical teams, stakeholders, and customers in a large enterprise environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Experience with storage migrations and storage replication technologies.
• Experience supporting geographically distributed teams or environments across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
• Background working with large enterprise clients in industries such as financial services, retail, or other highly regulated environments.
