Job summary

New York Technology Partners in Plano, TX is seeking a Senior Mainframe Storage Administrator to maintain and optimize the enterprise storage layer in a 24x7 environment. The role requires onsite presence with remote options, and deep expertise in z/OS storage, Hitachi Disk Storage, VTS/VTL, and DFSMS.

You will manage DASD, provisioning, migration, capacity planning, monitor performance, support backups and DR, and coordinate upgrades with systems teams.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional work experience as a Mainframe Storage administrator.
• Strong knowledge of IBM z/OS Storage Management.
• Hands-on experience with Hitachi Disk Storage (HDS/VSP, USP, VSP G Series).
• Experience administering IBM Virtual Tape System (VTS) or Virtual Tape Library (VTL).
• Strong understanding of DFSMS, SMS, ACS routines, and Storage Groups.
• Experience with DASD management, allocation, migration, and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of backup and recovery processes for mainframe storage environments.
• Experience with storage monitoring and capacity planning.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support IBM mainframe storage infrastructure in a 24x7 enterprise environment.
• Manage and maintain DASD storage using Hitachi Disk Storage (HDS/VSP) and related storage subsystems.
• Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Virtual Tape Systems (VTS/VTL) and physical tape environments.
• Perform storage allocation, provisioning, migration, and reclamation activities.
• Administer and support DFSMS, SMS policies, ACS routines, and storage groups.
• Monitor storage utilization, perform capacity planning, and recommend storage optimization strategies.
• Support backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery activities.
• Perform storage performance analysis and tuning to ensure optimal system performance.
• Coordinate storage-related software and hardware upgrades.
• Troubleshoot storage incidents and resolve complex production issues.
• Work closely with system programmers, application teams, and infrastructure teams during project implementations.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and storage standards.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security, audit, and operational policies.
• Participate in on-call production support and maintenance activities as required.
