Job summary

CTG is seeking a seasoned Mainframe Application Developer for modernization initiatives, located onsite in New York, NY or Pittsburgh, PA for a 6-month engagement. The role emphasizes COBOL, CICS, DB2, and API integration with mainframe-to-non-mainframe interfaces.

The candidate should bring 10+ years of experience, strong problem-solving skills, and excellent communication to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Prior experience with modernization projects is highly valued.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of industry experience.
• Extensive experience developing and supporting mainframe applications.
• Demonstrated experience with CICS, COBOL, and DB2.
• Experience participating in modernization initiatives including language migration, mainframe integration with non-mainframe environments using APIs, application optimization, and use of Java and/or Python with mainframe technologies.
• Experience in financial services and/or cash management preferred.
• Experience working in collaborative, enterprise technology environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, maintain, and modernize mainframe applications supporting critical business functions.
• Analyze existing mainframe applications and identify opportunities for modernization, optimization, and improved performance.
• Support application modernization initiatives, including language migration and integration with non-mainframe environments.
• Develop and maintain applications using COBOL, CICS, and DB2.
• Design and implement APIs and integration solutions connecting mainframe applications with distributed and cloud-based environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, architects, business stakeholders, and technology teams to define and implement modernization solutions.
• Troubleshoot application issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions.
• Contribute to the adoption of modern technologies such as Java and/or Python alongside existing mainframe technologies.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and ongoing application support.
• Ensure solutions meet organizational standards for quality, security, performance, and reliability.
