Job summary

CTG, a Cegeka company, is seeking a Mainframe Application Developer - Modernization to join our client and help transform critical mainframe systems. You will develop, enhance, maintain, and modernize COBOL-based applications using CICS and DB2, and design APIs to integrate with distributed and cloud environments while preserving reliability and security.

The position is onsite four days a week in New York, NY or Pittsburgh, PA for a six‑month duration.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of industry experience.
• Extensive experience developing and supporting mainframe applications.
• Demonstrated experience with CICS, COBOL, and DB2.
• Experience participating in modernization initiatives, including API-driven integrations and language migrations.

Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, maintain, and modernize mainframe applications.
• Analyze existing mainframe applications and identify opportunities for modernization and performance improvements.
• Support modernization initiatives, including language migration and API integration with non-mainframe environments.
• Develop and maintain COBOL, CICS, and DB2-based applications.
• Design APIs and integration solutions connecting mainframe with distributed/cloud environments.
• Collaborate with architects, stakeholders, and technology teams to implement modernization solutions.
• Troubleshoot issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable fixes.
• Adopt modern technologies such as Java and/or Python alongside mainframe tools.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
• Ensure solutions meet standards for quality, security, and reliability.

• Analyze existing mainframe applications and identify opportunities for modernization, optimization, and improved performance.
• Support application modernization initiatives, including language migration and integration with non-mainframe environments.
• Develop and maintain applications using COBOL, CICS, and DB2.
• Design and implement APIs and integration solutions connecting mainframe applications with distributed and cloud-based environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, architects, business stakeholders, and technology teams to define and implement modernization solutions.
• Troubleshoot application issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions.
• Contribute to the adoption of modern technologies such as Java and/or Python alongside existing mainframe technologies.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and ongoing application support.
• Ensure solutions meet organisational standards for quality, security, performance, and reliability.

  • Use of Java and/or Python with mainframe technologies.
• Experience in the financial services and/or cash management industry strongly preferred.
• Experience working in collaborative, enterprise technology environments.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
