Job description

Role : Mainframe IMS Application Database Administrator

Location : Remote position

Experience : 8+ years

IMPORTANT : This position is for a hands-on Application IMS DBA, not for a DB2 DBA.

Job Description :

1. Provide technical leadership and guidance to mainframe IMS application teams, collaborating with Mainframe Systems teams to ensure high availability of applications.
2. Support DBA maintenance and development of application databases across all environments (development, acceptance, production).
3. Perform advanced (senior-level) systems administration supporting agency mainframe applications and infrastructure, including day-to-day system administration functions.
4. Conduct performance monitoring, tuning, backup, recovery, and troubleshooting of IMS databases.
5. Perform routine system administration tasks such as performance and security monitoring and maintenance.
6. Support processes, oversee mainframe operations within the State's Consolidated Data Center Services (DCS), and coordinate with Network Administration, Customer Support, and Application Development & Support teams for daily mainframe operations.
7. Leverage expertise as a Mainframe IMS Application Database Administrator to support legacy systems and the Mainframe Transformation Team.

WORKER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

1. Administer mainframe application IMS databases.
2. Conduct performance monitoring, tuning, backup, recovery, and troubleshoot applications on IMS databases.

Proficient with: DBRC / RECONS, List reports, performing DBRC forward recoveries, selecting points in time for recoveries, performing database recoveries, IBM IMS utilities, vendor utilities, creating/modifying/maintaining IMS database descriptions, managing database records, monitoring database performance, and handling application support issues involving IMS databases.

Assist application programmers with DBRC issues in the test environment, resolve DBRC-related abends in production, refresh databases with production backups, and maintain Mainframe OS administration.

Coordinate testing of software upgrades and disaster recovery plans with DCS vendor, support problem and change management activities, and ensure compliance with vendor standards.

Coordinate deployment of mainframe software upgrades, test disaster recovery plans, and support mainframe production control, support jobs, and job scheduler.

Assist in application deployment procedures, create/maintain environments, and provide technical support for mainframe operations and after-hour batch jobs.
