Job summary

Syncreon Consulting in New York, NY seeks an experienced professional to lead mainframe modernization efforts, migrating legacy components to Java/Python and transitioning VSAM data to relational databases. You will participate in BAU and modernization scrums, support onboarding, and collaborate across teams.

The role requires hands-on COBOL/JCL/CICS/VSAM expertise, knowledge of Oracle/DB2, and experience with Control-M and IBM MQ. AI coding assistants are a focal point for productivity.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Analyze the existing mainframe codebase, workflows, and dependencies.
• Support component-by-component migration to Java/Python and relational DB migration.
• Contribute to BAU and modernization scrums; assist onboarding and process changes.
• Support POCs involving file access, concurrency, and relational DB patterns.
• Provide U.S. time zone coverage, including ET overlap and issue triage.

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, JCL, CICS, and VSAM, covering both batch and online transaction processing.
• Prior experience executing mainframe-to-distributed modernization projects.
• Working knowledge of Java and Python.
• Relational database experience: Oracle preferred, with DB2 familiarity helpful.
• Familiarity with Control-M, IBM MQ/MQ Series, and tools referenced as EZTrieve/EXTRACT.
• Proficiency with AI coding assistants/agents is required, with examples discussed including Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, and CodeWhisperer.

Responsibilities
