Summary

IT Specialist positions are filled through the Office of Personnel Management’s Direct Hire Authority, open to all U.S. citizens. Selections are processed as new appointments to the civil service. Veterans Preference and the "Rule of Many" do not apply.

Overview

Location: Woodlawn, MD; Durham, NC (telework eligible).
Pay: $169,279 – $197,200 per year (GS‑15).
Schedule: Full‑time, Flex‑Time.
Annual travel is not required.
Appointment type: Permanent.
Security clearance: None required.
Background check: Suitability/Fitness.
Risk level: Critical‑Sensitive (CS)/High Risk.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical advice and counsel to senior leaders on short‑ and long‑range IT initiatives supporting SSA programs and policies.
  • Engineer studies and analyses to ensure SSA’s IT systems align with mission, goals and operations; resolve complex IT performance problems.
  • Lead or conduct analyses of proposed improvements or enhancements to SSA operations.
  • Prepare and present written reports, memoranda, oral briefings, seminars, workshops, and recommendations concerning long‑range objectives, including legislative options.
  • Collaborate with intergovernmental and industry advisory groups to oversee, design and implement critical changes and enhancements in areas of expertise.
Qualifications

Specialized experience: At least 52 weeks of GS‑14 or higher experience at or above GS‑14 level in support, design, implementation, and troubleshooting of complex enterprise CICS, MQ, and DB2 systems. Experience must be clearly documented in resume.

Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Selective Service registration for men born after December 31, 1959 (www.sss.gov).
  • Fingerprinting, background, and/or security investigation may be required. Job offers contingent on investigation results.
  • Probationary period of one year may be required.
  • Relocation expenses will not be paid.
  • All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date.
