Job Title Mainframe and Network Monitoring Senior/Specialist

All employees are expected to live and work in Wisconsin. This position will have the option of working remotely upon agreement of the supervisor but may be asked to come into the office periodically. This schedule may change based on operational needs and organizational requirements.

Position Summary

The Division of Enterprise Technology provides statewide information technology services utilizing a combination of both State-owned equipment and vendor-provided services. The division ensures the effective and efficient use of information technologies in support of Wisconsin government services and programs. It designs, administers, promotes, and supports information technology services to state agencies, local governments, tribal governments, private partners, schools, universities, libraries, and citizens.

Under the general supervision, this position is responsible for data center after hours physical security access monitoring, server, and network device stability monitoring and z/OS console mainframe operations in a 24 x 7x 365 enterprise environment. Primary activities include following ITIL best practices while providing advanced technical support, troubleshooting incidents, and ensuring critical system availability.

The incumbent will frequently work on tasks that require a strong commitment to customer service, good communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. This position requires learning and evolving with new technology and processes to deliver continuous improvement in section services. The ability to function with an enterprise perspective and advise technical staff, DET management, and other entities’ staff on technical and business issues is critical.

This position may be filled at the senior or specialist level. Level will be determined based on the applicant’s qualifications.

Salary Information

Starting salary for the IS Enterprise Technical Services Senior (07-34) will be between $30.76 - $47.72 hourly. Starting salary for the IS Enterprise Technical Services Specialist (07-33) will be between $35.90 - $55.06 hourly. Salary will be determined by applicant qualifications. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

The typical work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday from 7:00 PM - 3:00 AM.

Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct fingerprinting and background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F-1 international students. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.


All employees are expected to live and work in Wisconsin. Interviews may be conducted onsite in Madison, WI. Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have ALL the following:

  • Education or training with networking hardware, TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, and standard network protocols.
  • Education or training working with mainframe platform and the z/OS operating system.
  • Training or experience with large-scale or enterprise-level monitoring software and system tracking tools.
  • Education or training working with network transport providers.


Applicants at the specialist level will have the following:

  • Experience with networking hardware, TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, and standard network protocols.
  • Experience working with mainframe platform and the z/OS operating system.
  • Experience with Job Control Language and batch execution.
  • Experience working with network transport providers.
