Position Summary and Responsibilities
Working from your home and through in-person sites across Maine, certified teachers will utilize the Pearson Online Classroom to support and motivate students in working through their curriculum, deliver synchronous instruction, provide intervention and enrichment, and use data to diagnose student learning needs. The Secondary Science Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:
Instruction & Curriculum
- Deliver engaging science instruction through asynchronous recordings, synchronous LiveLessons, and one-on-one or small group support sessions.
- Develop and maintain lesson plans aligned to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and MCA curriculum.
- Ensure science content is rigorous, accessible, and relevant to real-world applications.
- Provide differentiated instruction and supports for students with IEPs, 504 Plans, and diverse learning needs.
- Evaluate and grade student work, offering timely and constructive feedback.
- Monitor academic performance and implement targeted support strategies for students needing additional help.
Student Support & Intervention
- Build strong relationships with students and families to foster a supportive learning environment.
- Provide individualized support and intervention for students not making adequate academic progress.
- Participate in and contribute to MTSS/RTI processes using student data to inform decisions.
- Attend and contribute to meetings for students receiving additional services (IEP, 504, attendance, truancy, etc.).
- Maintain accurate records of interventions, student communication, and support strategies.
Advisory & Outreach
- Serve as an advisor to a caseload of students, providing regular outreach to both students and families.
- Collaborate with families to update Personal Learning Plans, monitor academic progress, and support goal setting.
- Communicate regularly with students and guardians via phone, email, and video conferencing.
- Refer, provide insight, and attend student support (STAR) meetings as needed.
Professional Collaboration & School Community
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to review data, plan instruction, and collaborate on student needs.
- Attend and contribute to required staff meetings, professional development sessions, and curriculum discussions.
- Collaborate with colleagues, learning specialists, and counselors to support students holistically.
- Contribute to the planning and supervision of school events, including graduation and virtual or in-person field trips.
- Actively participate in building school community through school events, communication, and outreach.
- Implement and support schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) by modeling expectations, reinforcing positive behavior, and using data to guide behavioral interventions and strategies.
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping of attendance, communication logs, student progress, and compliance with IEP/504 accommodations.
- Participate in the training, organization, and administration of state and other required assessments.
- Support school-wide recruiting and marketing efforts by representing the school as needed.
- Uphold a commitment to equitable and inclusive practices in all aspects of the role.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Certified to teach 7-12 Physical Science and 7-12 Life Science in Maine
- Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite)
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Highly organized and punctual

- Demonstrated ability to work well in fast-paced environments

- Strong interpersonal skills including effective collaboration with students, parents, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds
- Willingness to travel for marketing and state testing events (may require occasional overnight travel)
