Job summary

The City of Asheville is seeking an Economic Development Specialist in the Housing and Economic Development Department to advance local business growth and neighborhood revitalization. The role focuses on coordinating policies, programs, and partnerships to strengthen commercial corridors and support entrepreneurs.

You’ll work with public agencies and community partners to analyze economic data, manage projects, and assist in grant proposals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Political Science, Planning, or related field.
• 2–4 years of related experience in public relations, economic development, and/or local government, including contract or program management experience.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a central point of contact and ombudsman for Main Street businesses and startups, navigating regulations and directing owners to resources.
• Attends district meetings, conducts site visits, and documents district needs to support business retention and expansion.
• Builds partnerships with outside organizations to advance economic development goals.
• Collaborates with departments to streamline permitting and regulatory processes for local businesses.
• Supports grant research, proposal writing, and project narratives for the Economic Development Division.
• Prepares staff reports and presentations to promote economic development initiatives.
