Job summary

The Town of Pendleton is seeking a part-time Main Street & Downtown Engagement Coordinator to support the Downtown Revitalization program through events, promotions, volunteer coordination, and community engagement.

Under the supervision of the Community Engagement Manager, you will collaborate with downtown merchants, property owners, volunteers, and local partners to strengthen Pendleton's historic downtown and expand outreach.

Main Street & Downtown Engagement Coordinator

(NON-EXEMPT)

GENERALPURPOSE

The Town of Pendleton is seeking an energetic, organized, and community-minded professional to serve as the Part-Time Main Street & Downtown Engagement Coordinator. This position supports the Town's Main Street Program by coordinating downtown revitalization efforts through historic preservation, economic vitality, business engagement, volunteer coordination, promotions, and special events.

Working under the direction of the Community Engagement Manager, this position serves as the primary liaison for Main Street initiatives and works collaboratively with downtown merchants, property owners, volunteers, community organizations, Town staff, and state Main Street partners to strengthen Pendleton's historic downtown

Works under the general supervision of the Community Engagement Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

None. May occasionally assist in directing volunteers, temporary event staff, and other town employees during special events.

ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES

Downtown Revitalization

  • Coordinate activities supporting Pendleton's Main Street Program utilizing the National Main Street Four Point Approach®:

  • Assist in implementing annual work plans and strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate downtown revitalization projects while promoting historic preservation and economic development.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with downtown businesses, property owners, civic organizations, and community partners.
  • Represent the Town with South Carolina Main Street and other regional organizations as assigned.

Volunteer & Committee Coordination

  • Recruit, organize, and support volunteers serving on Main Street committees and special projects.
  • Schedule committee meetings, prepare agendas, maintain records, and communicate project updates.
  • Assist committees with implementing approved work plans and initiatives.
  • Help foster collaboration among downtown stakeholders and community organizations.

Business & Economic Development

  • Serve as a resource for downtown businesses and property owners.
  • Assist with business recruitment, retention, façade improvement efforts, and downtown beautification initiatives.
  • Maintain communication with merchants regarding promotions, events, and cooperative marketing opportunities.
  • Encourage collaboration among merchants on promotions, coordinated business hours, and downtown initiatives.

Promotions & Community Engagement

  • Build and manage Main Street Pendleton sub page on website, social media pages and other advertising opportunities as directed by Community Engagement Manager and Administration.
  • Coordinate downtown promotional activities, seasonal campaigns, and special events.
  • Assist with marketing, advertising, social media content, website updates, newsletters, and promotional materials.
  • Work with local media and community partners to maximize public awareness of downtown activities.
  • Promote Pendleton's historic character through public education and outreach.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain records, reports, databases, and documentation for Main Street activities.
  • Assist with budget tracking, purchasing, grant reporting, and program documentation.
  • Collect data related to business openings, property improvements, investments, volunteer hours, and economic impact.
  • Maintain photographic documentation of downtown improvements and projects.
  • Prepare reports required by Town administration and South Carolina Main Street.

Community Partnerships

  • Develop productive working relationships with local organizations, businesses, educational institutions, and nonprofit groups.
  • Coordinate with Town departments to support community events and downtown initiatives.
  • Encourage cooperation between downtown stakeholders and local government.

Other Duties

  • Assist with Town events and community engagement activities as assigned.
  • Attend evening meetings, festivals, and occasional weekend events.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES

Performs other related duties as required.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Preferred Qualifications
    (A) Coursework or experience in public relations, communications, marketing, event planning,

    or a related field preferred.

    • Prior experience in event coordination, social media management, or community outreach is a plus.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using major social media platforms and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Spark, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and approachable demeanor with a passion for community engagement.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Understanding of historic preservation, downtown development, and small business issues is preferred.
  • Ability to represent the Town professionally with businesses, elected officials, community organizations, and the public.

SPECIALREQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid SC driver's license or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of start date in this position.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Computer, social media platforms, basic graphic design software, standard office equipment (printer, copier, etc.), telephone, motor vehicle.

PHYSICALDEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to handle or operate tools or controls. The employee may be required to walk, lift up to 50 pounds, and assist with physical aspects of event setup and takedown.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed both in a standard office environment and outdoors. Noise levels may vary depending on location and activity. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

COMPENSATION

Hourly Rate: $16.00–$18.00 per hour, depending on experience, with a maximum of 20 hours per week.

Work Schedule: This is a flexible, part-time position. While work hours may vary based on departmental needs and scheduled events, the position is expected to average approximately:

  • 15 hours per week of office/administrative work
  • 5 hours per week of field work, including events, community outreach, and other activities as needed

Schedule flexibility is expected, particularly when supporting evening or weekend community events.
