Job description

The Downtown Coordinator supports the Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Victoria Main Street Program through downtown communications, marketing, events, stakeholder engagement, and administrative support. The position serves as a liaison between the City, downtown businesses, property owners, community organizations, and tourism partners while supporting revitalization initiatives, preservation efforts, community engagement, and implementation of the Main Street Four-Point Approach.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Downtown Communication & Promotion
  • Coordinate and implement downtown-focused marketing and communication efforts aligned with CVB and Main Street
  • Program branding, tourism goals, and downtown promotion initiatives.
  • Manage communication channels highlighting downtown events, attractions, businesses, initiatives, and visitor experiences including social media, newsletters and website content.
  • Assist with developing promotional materials and campaigns that increase awareness of downtown businesses, events, dining, shopping, entertainment, and cultural activities.
  • Maintain accurate public-facing downtown information including event calendars, promotional content, and visitor resources.
  • Assist in promoting downtown revitalization efforts and community initiatives through public outreach and communication.
Event Coordination & Visitor Experience
  • Plan, coordinate, and support downtown events, festivals, activations, and community programming that attract visitors and enhance the downtown experience.
  • Collaborate with downtown businesses, organizations, and community groups to support downtown programming and event participation.
  • Assist with event setup, operations, post-event evaluations, and reporting.
  • Track attendance, participation, and event-related data for reporting and program assessment purposes.
Downtown Business & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with downtown businesses, property owners, tourism partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update inventories and databases related to downtown businesses, property ownership, occupancy, employment and related downtown information.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding downtown events, programs, initiatives, and available community resources.
  • Assist with gathering and organizing downtown statistics, stakeholder feedback, and program-related information for internal reporting purposes.
Main Street Program & Revitalization Support
  • Assist with supporting downtown revitalization efforts consistent with Main Street Program principles and Community development goals as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of downtown incentive programs, preservation resources, grants, and revitalization opportunities to help direct stakeholders to appropriate resources and contacts.
  • Assist with communication and promotion of downtown revitalization, beautification, preservation, and community enhancement initiatives.
  • Participate in downtown engagement activities and collaborative efforts that support the economic vitality and aesthetic appeal of downtown.
Administrative & Program Support
  • Assist with preparing reports, correspondence, presentations, and other administrative documents.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, vendors, and outside agencies regarding downtown-related projects and activities.
  • Assist with processing invoices, purchase requests, reimbursements, and related documentation.
  • Maintain records, files, calendars, agreements, and communication materials related to downtown and CVB/Main Street activities.
  • Provide general administrative and logistical support for CVB, Main Street, and downtown initiatives
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment, with occasional outdoor activities as needed. The position may require physical activities such as pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. Employees may be exposed to varying weather conditions during outdoor assignments. Additionally, the role may require working evenings and weekends to support departmental operations an community events.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, History, Business, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Valid State driver’s license required.
  • Experience in tourism, event coordination, marketing, communications, public administration, downtown development, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with Main Street Program Principles, downtown revitalization, historic preservation, or community development initiatives preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database or records management systems.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with businesses, community organizations, City staff, and the public.
