Job summary

The Town of Berthoud, United States, seeks a part-time Community Engagement Assistant to help build meaningful community connections and raise awareness of initiatives. This 20-hour-per-week role runs Monday through Thursday, 9:00–2:30, with some weekends or evenings possible.

Responsibilities include planning social media campaigns, developing outreach materials, and representing the town at events. Proactive communication and ability to manage multiple tasks are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Social Work, Marketing, or closely related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in public outreach, communications, or related role.
  • Must have a Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute social media campaigns to inform and engage the public about the Town’s initiatives, programs, and services.
  • Assist in the planning of community-building events.
  • Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and forums to promote awareness and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Develop and distribute outreach materials to target groups.
  • Create engaging content for social media, newsletters, and the Town website.
  • Assist in creating press releases and other materials to promote events and programs.
  • Monitor social media for community feedback and respond as needed.
  • Create short videos to promote Town initiatives and staff.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members and stakeholders.
  • Act as a contact for public inquiries with clear information.
  • Identify and address community concerns and escalate when necessary.
  • Track outreach activities and report on metrics.
  • Assist in analyzing outreach effectiveness and suggest improvements.

Job description

Under general supervision, assist with the general duties of the Community Engagement Manager. This position will serve to help us build meaningful connections with our community and raise awareness about our initiatives.

Hours: 20 per week, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 – 2:30 PM. Some weekends or evenings may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute social media campaigns to inform and engage the public about the Town’s initiatives, programs, and services.
  • Assist in the planning of community-building events.
  • Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and forums to promote awareness and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Develop and distribute outreach materials (flyers, brochures, newsletters, videos) to target groups.
  • Develop engaging and informative content for social media platforms, newsletters, and the organization’s website to raise awareness of public initiatives.
  • Assist in the creation of press releases and other written materials to promote events and programs.
  • Monitor social media for community feedback, comments, and messages, and respond promptly when necessary.
  • Create short videos to promote awareness of the Town’s efforts, accomplishments, and staff.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Act as a point of contact for public inquiries, providing clear and accurate information about the organization’s programs and services.
  • Identify and address concerns or questions from the community, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Track outreach activities and report on key metrics, including event attendance, engagement levels, and community feedback.
  • Assist in analyzing the effectiveness of outreach campaigns and suggest improvements
  • Respond to questions from staff and community members clearly and concisely as necessary
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of principles of customer service and public relations in governmental settings
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and inform diverse audiences in person, over the phone, in email & writing
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • 1-2 years of experience working professionally on social media platforms, email marketing tools, and basic graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Spark, Capcut, etc.).
  • 1-2 years of experience creating professional short videos for social media.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Ability to organize and maintain efficient files
Education:
  • Required-High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred-Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Social Work, Marketing, or a closely related field.
Work Experience:
  • Required-1-2 years of experience in public outreach, communications, or a related role.
Certificates and Licenses:
  • Required-Must have a Valid Colorado Driver’s License
