Job summary

Lone Star College is seeking a Mail Services Technician to manage mail and package processing across campus. You will operate mailroom equipment, track deliveries, and coordinate mail routes, while supporting the Property Services team in daily operations.

The role requires attention to detail, strong customer service, and the ability to work independently or with a team. It is an essential position with potential weekend hours and campus travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED plus 3 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and clean driving record.
  • Associate degree or higher preferred; forklift certification advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort, and prepare mail and packages, including USPS and couriers.
  • Coordinate intra-campus and external mail delivery across locations.
  • Operate mailroom equipment and ensure secure handling of materials.
  • Maintain tracking logs, mail accounting, and monthly reports.
  • May drive college vehicles and plan delivery routes as needed.
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and mileage logs as required.
  • Keep mailroom tidy and compliant with safety standards.
  • Assist with training and troubleshooting of mail systems.
  • Support with general maintenance and event setup tasks.
  • Assist with CMMS data entry and account management in mail databases.

Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Mail Services Tech is responsible for the efficient and timelycollection, sorting, delivery, and processing of mail and packagesfor the college and provides operational support to the PropertyServices team. This position ensures reliable and courteous serviceto all faculty, staff, and students, acting as a crucial link inthe institution's communication and operationalinfrastructure.

This role works collaboratively across LSC campuses on specialprojects, recommend process improvement, and implement bestpractices in standard operating procedures (SOPs) across functionalunits.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Receives, sorts, and prepares all incoming and outgoing mailand packages, including USPS, intercampus, and courier deliveries(UPS, FedEx, Amazon, DHL)
  2. Arranges transportation and delivery of mail/packages acrosscampus and to external locations, ensuring timely and accuratedistribution
  3. Operates mailroom equipment (e.g., postage meters, scanners)and ensure proper handling of sensitive/confidential materials incompliance with postal regulations
  4. Maintains tracking systems for package flow, delivery logs, andmonthly volume reports; update mail accounting and trackingdatabases
  5. May be required to drive college vehicles to deliver mail andpackages, plan efficient routes, and obtain deliveryconfirmations/signatures as needed
  6. If applicable, conducts daily inspections and preventivemaintenance on assigned vehicles; maintain mileage logs and ensuresafe operation
  7. Keeps mailroom areas clean, organized, and compliant withsafety standards
  8. Coordinates with departments and external entities to resolvedelivery discrepancies, damages, or claims
  9. Assists in training new staff and provide troubleshootingsupport for mailroom equipment and systems.
  10. Assists with general maintenance tasks, including simplerepairs, auction preparation, and property/servicesinspections
  11. Supports event setup and takedown and assist tech teams withweather-related recovery efforts
  12. Delivers copy paper to designated workspaces across campus
  13. Assists with administrative duties including CMMS updates,report generation, and account management in mail servicesdatabases
  14. Responsible for other reasonable related duties asassigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of mailroom operations, procedures, and relevantpostal regulations (ex., USPS)
  • Ability to operate mailroom equipment and computer systems(e.g., mail meters, scanning software, delivery apps, GPS)
  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklift and palletjack
  • Strong organizational skills to sort, track, and manage mailand packages efficiently
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, includingthe ability to interact with a diverse population
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in sorting, tracking, andprocessing mail
  • Adaptability and problem-solving skills to handle unexpectedsituations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
  • Must be capable of performing labor-intensive work such as longperiods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping,stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring liftingof moderately heavy items, such as boxes
  • Physical ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs.consistently and potentially up to 75 lbs. occasionally), stand,walk, and drive for extended periods
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS
  • Work in various indoor and outdoor environments, includingexposure to heat, cold, and inclement weather
  • May regularly travel to different LSC locations
  • May fully reassigned to other LSC locations ifnecessary
  • May need to work weekends and untraditional hours ifnecessary
  • This position is classified as an essential employee, whichmeans the individual may be required to report to work duringcollege closures or emergencies to support recovery and reopeningefforts
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience,or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and clear driving record
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate degree or higher
  • At least 5 years of related work experience
  • Certified Forklift Operator
Salary

Hiring salary range is $36,057 - $41,466

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all postedfull-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fallin that range is determined by your related experience andeducation.
