Job summary

Coppin State University in Maryland is seeking a Postal Services Processor (Open) to join the Postal Services Department. The position is regular full-time and pays $20.00 hourly.

Under supervision, you will prepare incoming mail for distribution, process outgoing mail, affix postage, weigh mail, and maintain records on postage, registered mail, and packages. The role requires physical ability to lift up to 70 lbs and basic computer/operator skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year of related work experience.
• Ability to sort and process mail.
• Ability to lift and carry mail bags/boxes up to 70 lbs.
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow directions.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment and postal services machines.

Responsibilities

• Sorts incoming mail for distribution and dispatches outgoing mail.
• Processes registered, certified, and insured items, bulk mailings, and United Parcel Service packages.
• Stamps date and time of receipt on incoming mail.
• Collects and delivers mail to specified locations on campus for processing.
• Secures required signatures for accountable mail items such as registered mail and stamp orders.
• Sorts mail according to destination and type, such as returned letters, adjustments, bills, orders, and payments.
• Researches and addresses undeliverable mail.
• Examines outgoing mail for appearance and seals envelopes.
• Weighs mail to determine correct postage.
• Operates standard equipment including scales, metering devices, bundle machines, photocopiers, facsimile and bar code machines.
• Other duties as assigned.
