Job summary

REalloys Inc. is seeking a Magnet Development Engineer to lead process refinement and quality plans for high-performance magnet materials.

You will drive compositional modification, powder development, and grain boundary engineering through heat treatment and advanced processing methods to meet specs while reducing heavy rare earth content. You will coordinate with external clients, research institutes, and suppliers, develop magnet prototypes, and manage characterization labs, measurements, and

Qualifications

  • BS, MS or higher preferred in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in magnetism and magnetic materials.
  • Laboratory experience including troubleshooting electronic test and characterization setups.
  • Programming experience with Matlab and Python for data analysis.
  • Experience with experimental methodology, materials characterization, data analysis, and design refinement.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with external strategic clients, research institutes/national labs, universities, and suppliers to develop and implement improved magnet materials and process technology
  • Develop and manage magnet prototype fabrication, design, and characterization labs
  • Perform and analyze measurements on magnet materials at all stages of production
  • Development of new state-of-the art magnetic materials and processes
  • Working with the team, industrialize licensed magnet technology
  • Manage and operate development and production spark plasma sintering and hot compaction equipment and alignment presses for magnet production
  • Develop quality plans for magnet powder and finished magnet production, from strip casting, powder processing, low oxygen powder processing, powder microencapsulation, surface modification, and consolidation, field alignment and annealing.
  • Design of Experiments creation and data analysis
  • Set-up and procedure development for magnet powder and magnet manufacturing
  • Writing and managing R&D, SBIR, and consortium grants and contracts

Job description

As a Magnet Development Engineer, you will be leading process refinement, helping develop process controls and quality plans, and working on compositional modification, powder development, and grain boundary engineering through heat treatment and advanced processing methods to meet high performance magnet specifications, and continuously improving magnet performance while reducing heavy rare earth content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordination with external strategic clients, research institutes/national labs, universities, and suppliers to develop and implement improved magnet materials and process technology
  • Develop and manage magnet prototype fabrication, design, and characterization labs
  • Perform and analyze measurements on magnet materials at all stages of production
  • Development of new state-of-the art magnetic materials and processes
  • Working with the team, industrialize licensed magnet technology
  • Manage and operate development and production spark plasma sintering and hot compaction equipment and alignment presses for magnet production

Basic Qualifications

  • BS, (MS or higher preferred) degree. and 3+ years of experience in Physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in magnetism and magnetic materials
  • Laboratory experience including troubleshooting electronic test and characterization setups
  • Programming experience with data and statistical analysis of large data sets with Matlab and Python
  • Experience with experimental methodology, materials characterization, data analysis, and design refinement
