Role Description

We are currently seeking a Volunteer Journalist to join our remote team at The Weekly Gazette. This is an Unpaid volunteer position. In this role, you will be responsible for researching and writing compelling news articles, conducting interviews, drafting press releases, and contributing to our editorial direction. This position offers a unique opportunity to build your portfolio, gain hands-on experience in digital journalism, and work with a passionate team of storytellers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in drafting and editing news articles and press releases
• Support senior writers and editors with background research and fact-checking
• Help coordinate and schedule interviews with sources
• Monitor current events and suggest relevant story ideas
• Contribute to organizing and updating editorial calendars and content workflows
• Aid in preparing materials for digital publication and basic broadcasting tasks
• Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions

Qualifications:

• C1 minimum proficiency level in English (both written and spoken)
• Interest in journalism, news writing, or media
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to learn and take direction from editors and senior writers
• Basic research and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote environment
• Previous writing or journalism experience is a plus, but not required
• Students or recent graduates in Journalism, Communications, or related fields are encouraged to apply
