Background

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people affected by humanitarian crises – including the climate crisis – to survive, recover, and rebuild their lives. Founded at the call of Albert Einstein in 1933, the IRC is now at work in over 50 crisis-affected countries as well as communities throughout Europe and the Americas.

This fully remote Private Funds Prospecting Volunteer will support Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration (RAI) in the United States which is comprised of 29 dynamic offices. RAI-US delivers lasting impact in refugee and immigrant communities by providing initial resettlement, mental health, employment, workforce development, English as a second language, and immigration services in addition to services for foreign-born survivors of crime and human-trafficking. Private resource development is increasingly critical to sustain these services. Through private fundraising, we can build wider webs of support for newcomers. Creative strategies and new pathways for private fundraising are essential at this pivotal moment.

This service opportunity will work with the RAM team, which supports RAI-US grants, development, and volunteer management staff across U.S. offices. RAM builds human-centered systems and strategies to efficiently leverage private resources to meet critical needs.

  • Search IRC databases (Salesforce) for funding or relationship history with prospective donors.
  • Identify local private funding opportunities for RAI offices, including foundations, corporations, and high-value individuals, and provide relevant donor context.
  • Scope of research may include local foundations, corporations, and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Coordinate closely with the RAM Development Director.
  • Identify public funding streams available locally and potential application methods.
Skills & Competencies
  • Experience in prospect research and private fundraising.
  • Clear, compassionate communication skills and a collaborative approach.

  • Curious, flexible, systems-thinking mindset.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital outreach tools.
Working Environment
  • Fully remote; volunteer must use personal equipment.
  • Effective workspace required.
  • All positions contingent upon successful background check at no cost to the applicant.
