Job summary

BLN24 in McLean, VA is seeking a Publications Specialist II to manage the lifecycle and editorial quality of the agency's Public Roads magazine within a hybrid/on-site environment. The role requires coordinating schedules, reviewers, and content, while ensuring compliance with style guides and accessibility standards.

You will oversee production timelines, maintain version control, and liaise with authors, editors, and designers to deliver a polished quarterly publication on time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or a closely related field.
• 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in editorial and publication management.
• Proven track record of overseeing the production of a periodical, preferably a technical or specialty publication.
• Master's degree or equivalent advanced professional certification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lifecycle & Production Management: oversee the complete magazine lifecycle, including establishing production schedules and tracking article versions through approvals.
• Editorial & Writing Support: provide high-level editorial support and content development with strict version control and quality assurance.
• Stakeholder Liaison: act as primary liaison between writing teams and layout/design teams with multiple approvals.
• Compliance & Quality Control: ensure articles and magazine adhere to GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
• Logistical Oversight: manage distribution and formatting specifications to meet organizational standards.
