Job summary

Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co. seeks an experienced Machinist to design and fab machine parts by analyzing specifications, setting up and operating tools, and assembling components using Tool Room equipment.

You will troubleshoot, inspect dimensions, and ensure parts meet tolerances while maintaining a safe work environment and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in CNC Machining and/or Related Field (required).
  • 2+ years' experience as a Machinist.
  • Ability to read blueprints and CAD drawings.
  • Familiarity with CNC machines and precision measurement.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze work orders, blueprints, and models to determine material requirements.
  • Set up and operate milling machines, shapers, grinders; verify parts meet specs.
  • Heat treat parts as required and inspect dimensions for conformance.
  • Maintain safe working environment and wear PPE; report hazards.
  • Prepare and process layouts and tool setups for production.

Description

Summary

The Machinist creates and designs machine parts by analyzing specifications, metal stock, setting-up and operating machine tools, and fit and assemble parts, and repair cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and miscellaneous components using appropriate Tool Room equipment to complete the job in the most efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyzes work orders, blueprints, sketches, models, and/or descriptions to visualize shape of a part or tool and determine material required
  • Inputs dimensions, plan layout, and determines assembly method of sequence of operation
  • Responsible for heat treating all parts
  • Cuts, shapes, and trims prototypes to specified length or shape by using appropriate Tool Room equipment
  • Layout stock for machining
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications
  • Inspects and verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances
  • Responsible for setting up and running water jets
  • Examines current or previously used dies, tools, jigs and fixtures and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part
  • Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product
  • Promote a safe workplace by performing all tasks in a safe and thoughtful manner in compliance with all rules, procedures, instructions, devices, equipment and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Maintain vigilance for any hazardous conditions or practices in the workplace and immediately report any unsafe condition or practice to your supervisor.

  • Working knowledge of machine troubleshooting problems and determine solutions
  • Knowledge of hand tools and large scale machines
  • Solid understanding of mathematics and the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to hold a tolerance as close as + - .005
  • Knowledgeable in hydraulics, welding, pneumatics, brazing and soldering
  • Proficient in CNC equipment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CMM systems, 3D Modeling, and CAD Software Systems
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • The physical environment requires the employee to work in a non-climate controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to be punctual and attend work on a regular and consistent basis
  • The person in this position needs to wear appropriate safety clothing and shoes when needed. This includes safety glasses, lift belts and steel toe shoes etc.
  • Ability to perform repetitive rotation and movement of hands and wrists quickly and efficiently
  • Must have good dexterity and hand/eye coordination
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts
  • Must be able to stand for 60% of the time
  • Occasionally will be expected to lift large materials not to exceed 60 pound
Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in CNC Machining and/or Related Field
  • 2+ years' experience as a Machinist
