Job summary

ASC Engineered Solutions in Liberty, SC seeks an experienced Tool & Die Maker to design and produce machine parts. You will analyze specifications, set up and operate milling, shaper and grinder tools, and ensure parts meet precise tolerances.

Responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, heat treating parts, performing prototypes, and guiding tool design improvements. A strong safety mindset and teamwork are essential for success in this onsite role.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degrees in Machine Tool & Die and/or Toolmaker Journeyman’s Card
• 5+ years’ experience as a Tool & Die Maker
• Well-versed in analyzing and interpreting blueprints, sketches, models, and descriptions
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles
• Apply understanding of machine systems to design, fabricate, maintain and improve components
• Troubleshoot machine problems and determine solutions
• Knowledge of hand tools and large-scale machines
• Solid grounding in algebra and geometry for tolerances
• Hydraulics, welding, pneumatics, brazing and soldering knowledge
• Proficient in CNC equipment, CAD/3D modeling and MS Office tools

Responsibilities

• Analyzes orders and blueprints to determine material requirements
• Inputs dimensions, layouts, and sequences of operation
• Responsible for heat treating all parts
• Cuts and shapes prototypes using tool room equipment
• Sets up and operates milling, shaper and grinder
• Machine parts and verify conformance to specs
• Inspects dimensions, alignments, and clearances
• Runs water jets and assesses tooling wear
• Proposes design modifications for parts and tools
• Develops drawings for specialty tools and sketches designs
• Maintains a safe workplace and reports hazards
• Performs other duties as directed

Position Title: Tool & Die Maker

Tool & Die Maker

The Tool & Die Maker creates and designs machine parts by analyzing specifications, metal stock, setting-up and operating machine tools, and fit and assemble parts, and repair cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and miscellaneous components using appropriate Tool Room equipment to complete the job in the most efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyzes work orders, blueprints, sketches, models, and/or descriptions to visualize shape of a part or tool and determine material required
• Inputs dimensions, plan layout, and determines assembly method of sequence of operation
• Responsible for heat treating all parts
• Cuts, shapes, and trims prototypes to specified length or shape by using appropriate Tool Room equipment
• Layout stock for machining
• Sets up and operates machine tools such as milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications
• Inspects and verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances
• Responsible for setting up and running water jets
• Examines current or previously used dies, tools, jigs and fixtures and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part
• Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product
• Promote a safe workplace by performing all tasks in a safe and thoughtful manner in compliance with all rules, procedures, instructions, devices, equipment and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Maintain vigilance for any hazardous conditions or practices in the workplace and immediately report any unsafe condition or practice to your supervisor
• Performs other duties as directed

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Associate’s Degrees in Machine Tool & Die and/or Toolmaker Journeyman’s Card
• 5 + years’ experience as a Tool & Die Maker
• Well-versed in analyzing and interpreting blueprints, sketches, models, and/or descriptions
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles
• Ability to apply understanding of machine systems to design, fabricate, maintain, and identify improvement possibilities
• Working knowledge of machine troubleshooting problems and determine solutions
• Knowledge of hand tools and large scale machines
• Solid understanding of mathematics and the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
• Ability to hold a tolerance as close as + - .0002
• Well-versed in hydraulics, welding, pneumatics, brazing and soldering
• Proficient in CNC equipment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, CMM systems, 3D Modeling, and CAD Software Systems
