Job summary

Vulcan Metals Corporation is seeking a Machinist for the Union, 3rd Shift (3/12 hour shifts) at the Tacoma Foundry. You will operate CNC and manual machines, set up with Mastercam, and strive for safety, quality, and on-time delivery.

Expect pay for 40 hours while working 36, plus shift differential, with a Friday–Sunday schedule and potential training on day shift. The role emphasizes safety, adherence to quality systems, and participation in cost-saving projects.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• College or trade school certification preferred.
• Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
• Basic computer skills: MS Excel, Word, PDF.

Responsibilities

• Run and operate medium to large conventional and CNC vertical lathe and horizontal boring machines.
• Set up and program machine equipment using Mastercam along with Programmer.
• Work to hold scheduling and maintain good workflow.
• Create maintenance work orders as needed to keep equipment and tools in good working conditions.
• Perform preventative maintenance necessary for the machine tool.
• Participate in cost saving or process improvement projects.
• Evaluate and set-up parts on machine workstation to ensure safe working conditions.
• Immediately correct safety issues within your area and alert management as needed.
• Participate in special activities and programs to support safety, quality and compliance.
• Maintain daily housekeeping in work area.
• Other duties as assigned or requested.

This is achieved by making safety the highest priority, meeting standard cost objectives, and consistently upholding the company's quality and on-time delivery expectations. In addition, the Machinist is responsible for complying with all applicable customer purchase order requirements and adhering to the policies, procedures, and standards of Vulcan Tacoma Foundry's Quality Management System.
Primary Responsibilities:

• Run and operate medium to large conventional and CNC vertical lathe and horizontal boring machines along with miscellaneous lathes and milling operations
• Setup and program machine equipment using MASTERCAM along with Programmer
• Work to hold scheduling and maintain good workflow
• Create maintenance work orders as needed to keep the equipment and tools in good working conditions
• Perform preventative maintenance necessary for the machine tool
• Participate in cost saving or process improvement projects
• Evaluate and set-up parts on machine workstation to ensure safe working conditions
• Immediately correct safety issues that are within your area and alert management to any safety issues that need further evaluation
• Participate in special activities, projects, and programs to support Vulcan Metals's Safety, Quality and Compliance
• Maintain daily housekeeping in work area
• Other duties as assigned or requested

Experience:

• Must have high level of performance at running/operating CNC and manual horizontal boring and large vertical lathe machines
• Understanding of basics and advanced tooling application
• Must be able to perform basic preventative maintenance on machines

Skills and Knowledge:

• Knowledgeable in blueprint reading
• Able to read and interpret work instructions and requirements/specification
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Understand and use of precision inspections tools such as micrometers, indicators, and scales
• Strong math skills
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Self-motivation and able to prioritize tasks and be self-directed

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to use arms, hands, legs, and feet in repetitive motions.
• Must be able to twist, stoop, bend, and stand in the performance of job duties.
• Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to stand and walk on concrete floors and uneven surfaces for the duration of the work shift.
• Must have good vision and depth perception.
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to safely operate machine tools, measuring instruments, and related equipment.

Pay Range:$29.08 - $45.78 per hour, (depending on experience)work 36 hours, get paid for 40 hours,plus shift differential pay
Schedule:Friday-Sunday, 3:00PM - 4:00AM
Training Schedule: If training is required, employees may be scheduled to train on day shift (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) or other shifts at management’s discretion. Training may last approximately 1–6 months, depending on individual training needs.
