Job summary

Vulcan Metals Corporation is seeking a Chipper/Grinder to clean, grind, and finish steel castings to meet customer specs. You will operate pneumatic and electric grinders and related tools to prep castings for final inspection and shipment.

Shift options include 1st and 2nd, with pay of $24.38 per hour. Responsibilities include inspecting castings for defects, moving castings with cranes, and adhering to safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand long periods, and work in hot, dusty environments.
• Must be medically qualified, fit-tested, and able to wear a respirator.

Position Overview:

The Chipper/Grinder is responsible for cleaning, grinding, and finishing steel castings to meet quality standards and customer specifications. This position requires operating pneumatic and electric grinders, chippers, and other finishing tools to remove excess metal, smooth surfaces, and prepare castings for final inspection and shipment. The role is critical in ensuring castings are free from defects and meet safety, dimensional, and aesthetic requirements.

SHIFT: 1st and 2nd

PAY: $24.38

Essential Duties

• Grind, chip, and finish surfaces to required dimensions and smoothness based on production and quality requirements.
• Inspect castings for defects such as cracks, porosity, or inclusions and report any issues to supervision or quality control.
• Operate cranes, hoists, or material handling equipment to move castings safely.
• Follow established work instructions, blueprints, and quality standards to ensure consistent results.
• Maintain tools, grinding wheels, and equipment in safe and proper working condition.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face shields, respirators, gloves, and hearing protection.
• Keep work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
• Assist other team members in the clean department as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Knowledge

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in hot, dusty environments.
• Must be medically qualified, fit-tested, and able to wear a respirator in accordance with applicable safety regulations and company policies.

Experience:

• Preferred 1-2 experience using pneumatic tools, grinders, chippers, and other finishing equipment safely and effectively.
• Prefer 1-2 year working on casting defects and finishing standards.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions and safety procedures required.
• Strong attention to detail and quality required.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Excellent hand eye coordination
