Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, working from blueprints, sketches, written and/or verbal instructions, sets up and performs diversified and complex machining, fitting, and assembly operations. Determines proper tooling and sequence of operations, skillfully uses all machinists’ hand tools and measuring equipment to produce work to specifications. Must be capable of making complex setups and operating available machine tools; determining operational sequences, jigs, fixtures, and designing tools as needed.

Essential Functions

• Make complex setups and operate machine tools; determine operational sequences, jigs, fixtures, and design tools.
• Skillfully use all machinist’s hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Familiar with machining various materials.
• Use advanced shop math, including trigonometry.
• Transport parts within the work area.
• Maintain good housekeeping and safety standards in the shop.
• Follow all company policies and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an apprenticeship or approximately four years of on-the-job experience, or at least five years as a machinist.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Operate standard and specialized equipment for prototype or production parts.
• Perform shop computations using technical math, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Deep understanding of geometric dimensions and tolerances in standard and metric systems.
• Team-oriented mentality and willingness to collaborate.

Equipment/ Machinery Used

• Bridgeport-type milling machines
• Hardinge-type and engine lathes
• Prototrak
• Tool and surface grinders
• Shop inspection equipment (comparator, height gauges, micrometers, etc.)

Physical Requirements

• Moderate physical activity.
• Handling objects up to 50 pounds, extended standing, walking, pushing, and pulling.
