CSI is looking to hire a focused and detailed individual for the Manual Machinist 2 position.

This position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a variety of working conditions. The machining department centers around a job-shop type environment, where work assignments and workloads will vary. Mastery of skills will be indicated by meeting the requirements of the machining department (speed, quality, consistency, profitability).

The primary business focus centers around 300 series stainless steel, but opportunities for working with other alloys will arise. Candidates must exhibit personal characteristics such as pride in the quality of work produced and a strong desire to uphold stringent standards.

Salary: $22 - $27 per hour

The job functions listed are a guideline and may require updating as changes occur.

Primary Functions

Run manual lathe and mill, including:

  • Jacketed tube assemblies
  • Transfer panels (standard and non-standard)
  • Mutator: machine drive and bearing
  • Blind flanges
  • Hose barbs
  • Day to day jobs, as needed
  • Effective use of the following equipment:
  • GF and cutoff saws
  • Band saw
  • Ultrasonic parts washer

Manual machining of standard and non-standard components including:

  • Formulas, practical geometry, and trigonometry
  • Proper sharpening of twist drills
  • Proper tap drill selection
  • Proper use and lubrication of machine shop equipment
  • Appropriate use and application of dial indicators
  • Setup and perform tool changes
  • Tool grinding
  • Cutting internal and external threads
  • Record heat number, bar, and/or tubing used on the BOM
  • Blue print reading and understanding of current drafting standards and symbols
  • Safe clean-up procedures for all machine shop equipment
  • Familiarity with and ability to locate and apply information in the machinist handbook

Effective use of the following measuring devices:

  • Calipers
  • Spring calipers
  • Micrometers
  • Portable surface roughness gauge
  • Steel scales within .005 accuracy
  • Other measuring devices

Other requirements include:

  • Use of correct bar
  • Record heat numbers and bar amounts
  • Removal of all chips for incoming shift
  • General maintenance and cleaning of machining equipment
Position Requirements:

Education/Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • Applicable trade school experience preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years manual machining experience, preferred

It is generally expected that a machinist will work an average of 45 hours during the normal workweek. However, due to the sporadic nature of our production requirements, work hours may vary. The potential for additional overtime hours on Saturday and/or Sunday may be requested or required at times. No overtime is guaranteed.

Machining positions require constant bending, kneeling, and stooping. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 75 pounds with assistance. Visual acuity is required to perform work using close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee may be exposed to environmental factors typical of polishing and grinding. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, such as gloves, safety glasses and steel toe shoes.
