Job summary

Altec is seeking a Machinist in Duluth, MN to operate CNC equipment and support machining and assembly of aerial devices. You will read drawings, measure parts, and assist with programming while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Expect to work in a collaborative manufacturing environment, cross-train across areas, and support APS initiatives. The role emphasizes training others and following established procedures to ensure on-time, quality production.

Qualifications

• Read drawings and interpret critical dimensions, tolerances, and diameters.
• Read and interpret tape measures, blueprints and schematics.
• Basic computer knowledge with ability to learn shop software or systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC machining equipment and other required equipment.
• Read drawings and determine critical dimensions, tolerances, and diameters.
• Assist with numeric controlled programming.
• Perform rework and repair tasks.
• Inspect machined parts for conformance to specifications.
• Use measuring equipment to verify dimensions.
• Load and unload components and tooling.
• Maintain daily time records.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives under APS (Altec Production System).
• Cross-train and move to other work areas to support production needs.
• Assist and train new or current associates.
• Follow safety, environmental, and quality policies and PPE usage.
• Maintain shop area and tools/equipment.
• Align with Altec core values.
• Perform other assigned job duties.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES MACHINIST:

• Operate CNC machining equipment and other equipment as required.
• Read drawings, determine critical dimensions/tolerances/diameters, calculate conversion between decimals and fractions.
• Assists with numeric controlled programming
• Perform rework and repair tasks.
• Perform inspection of machined parts.
• Use measuring equipment to verify conformance to specifications.
• Load and unload components and tooling.
• Maintain daily time records.
• Support APS (Altec Production System) initiatives. May participate in continuous improvement events.
• Move to other work areas in order to support production needs. (Cross-train)
• Effectively assist and train new/current associates.
• Follow established safety, environmental and quality policies, procedures and practices to include proper use and care of PPE
• Maintain work area and shop tools/equipment.
• Shows commitment to Altec core values.
• Other job duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Welding Tech or Machining Degree currently in process
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend
• Basic computer knowledge
• Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and schematics
