Job summary

Amentum is seeking a skilled Machinist III to join our JETSII contract team in the Houston area. This union position requires extensive CNC experience, setting up and operating HAAS, Hurco, and Mazak machines, with a strong focus on flight hardware handling and safety in a fast-paced shop environment.

The role involves planning machining sequences, selecting tools, reading blueprints, and training junior machinists, all while maintaining high precision to meet NASA project standards.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 12 years of machinist experience.
• Familiarity in at least one CNC programming language.
• Proficiency with standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Proficiency in CNC programming with CAD CAM is a plus; ProE, GibbsCAM, or Conversational CNC with multi axis programming.
• Experience on HAAS, Hurco, Mazak machining centers.
• Experience with horizontal multi axis or vertical with 4th axis rotation.
• Overhead crane experience.
• Handling NASA flight hardware.

Responsibilities

• Plan, layout, machine and assemble parts and tools to exact tolerances.
• Set and operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drills.
• Determine sequence of machining operations and cutting tools.
• Check blueprints and ensure conformance to specs.
• Program and operate CNC machines; train less experienced machinists.
• Maintain clean work area and organize inventory.
