Job summary

Machinist II at TSI

The Machinist II performs machining and fitting of all kinds of parts, tools, and machines to support production operations or job shop machining of engineering prototypes. Working with minimal technical supervision, the machinist sets up and operates manual and CNC machines, lays out work from blueprints and specifications, and checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances. The role may require direct communication with engineering to understand the purpose of a part assembly.



What Will You Do?


  • Set up, adjust, operate, and program a variety of machines, including manual mills, turret lathes, CNC mills, and CNC lathes.

  • Follow work practices geared toward continuous quality improvement and best practices.

  • Plan assignments, layout, and set up machines for manual, numerically controlled, and computerized shop equipment.

  • Work from complex blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks that may include cutting and shaping metal to precision dimensions.

  • Check and inspect machining operations against specified tolerances.

  • Identify and repair machine malfunctions when possible.

  • Work effectively as a team member within the department.

  • Participate in cross‑training activities in the department.

  • Serve as a technical resource for less experienced machinists.

  • Collaborate with the Production Supervisor (Machine Shop) to establish annual goals and objectives aligned with department goals.

  • Operate all available machine tools independently to perform various machine operations on parts made from diverse materials.

  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work area and shop at all times.

  • Follow all safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned.



What Do You Need?


Required


  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent (preferred).

  • 2‑year graduate of a vocational‑tech machinist program and/or 3+ years of machining experience preferred.

  • Minimum three years machining experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically a high‑technology setting.



Desired


  • Ability to run CNC and manual machines and perform basic programming as needed.

  • Ability to apply acquired job skills and company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks.

  • Understanding of the properties of all machining materials.

  • Follow established procedures on routine work; only require instructions on new assignments.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to give and receive instructions, work with engineers and technicians, and train other machinists.

  • Ability to work with a team to meet department objectives and goals.

  • Strong problem‑solving skills.

  • Persuasion and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and work successfully on simultaneous projects.

  • Ability to employ sound judgment with little or no supervision.

  • Demonstrates personal and professional integrity as a role model to less experienced machinists.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

Pay & Benefits

Competitive market salary ranging from $69,750 to $71,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Eligible leadership and individual‑contributor roles may receive additional bonus opportunities at the discretion of the company.
