Machinist II – Reading, PA

Shift Hours: 6:30am – 3:00pm, Monday thru Friday.

Sets up and operates conventional and special purpose metal working machines to fabricate metal and nonmetallic parts. Employees may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. Build and service progressive punch & dies to support manufacturing. Collaborate with production to enhance processes and tooling.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Mastery of building tooling for thermoforming and punch press operations.
  2. Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine manufacturing methods, dimensions, and tolerances.
  3. Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions on materials or workpieces for machining.
  4. Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, and attachments on machines.
  5. Calculate and set controls to ensure proper fit, form, and finish of parts.
  6. Inspect finished work to verify conformance to specifications.
  7. Build, rebuild, and service tools; understand operations to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
  8. Install machined replacement parts and test machine operation.
  9. Monitor machine operation, detect malfunctions, and adjust controls accordingly.
  10. Assemble and verify dimensions and alignment of assemblies.
  11. Operate welding equipment if needed.
  12. Operate forklifts, cranes, and other equipment as required.
  13. Complete necessary paperwork for tasks and deliveries.
  14. Develop specifications and create sketches or prints for fabrication.
  15. Collaborate with management and production teams to resolve machining problems.
  16. Maintain department housekeeping and safety standards.
  17. Work in other work centers as needed.
  18. Follow safety procedures and quality management systems.
Qualifications
  • High School Vocational diploma or two-year technical degree plus 2-4 years related experience, or equivalent.
  • Preferred: training in Precision Machining Technology, Solidworks, Mastercam, CNC/Milling, Thermoforming Mold Making, Tool and Die Making, Plastic Injection Molding, Foundry Pattern Making, or Machine Building.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, ANSI Y14.5M, Tow motor, and Overhead Crane certifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and write reports.
  • Strong math skills, including geometry and trigonometry, and proficiency with precision measuring equipment.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret technical instructions.
