General Description

Produce parts using standard machining processes.

DUTIES

• Calculate dimensions and tolerances with knowledge of mathematics and precision measurement instruments. Fabricate assemblies or subassemblies using machine tools such as saws, lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
• Make setup decisions based on the part, product, and material being used.
• Measure and examine completed products to ensure they meet drawing and customer requirements.
• Make minor adjustments and setup changes on basic machine tools and equipment.
• Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials onto machines.
• Monitor machine feed and speed during machining and adjust as necessary.
• Evaluate the machining process for hazards and ensure safety protocols are followed.
• Ensure all PPE is in place before starting machining operations.
• Train and assist Machinist I.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent; trade school diploma in Machining/Machining Science.
• 4 to 7 years of experience in a machining environment.
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
• Control over equipment and systems used in machining.
• Monitoring gauges, dials, and indicators for proper operation.
• Use advanced mathematics and machining experience to solve problems.
• Select the appropriate tools for tasks.
• Basic knowledge of CNC programming with ability to make minor edits.
• Produce products from engineering drawings.
• Experience with precision measurement instruments.
• Knowledge of raw materials used in machining.
• Ability to train others.
• Inspect work area for safety hazards prior to operations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, sit, climb stairs, lift up to 50 pounds, and use finger dexterity.
• Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Work in a manufacturing environment.
