Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Roll Form Machinist II to operate and oversee roll forming machinery in our high-volume manufacturing facility. As a senior-level machinist, you will be responsible for leading complex machine setups, troubleshooting, tooling changes, and quality assurance. This role requires a deep understanding of roll forming principles, metallurgy, tooling geometry, and production flow. You will play a critical role in driving machine efficiency, minimizing downtime, and ensuring top-tier product output for structural or custom-formed metal products.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate roll forming lines to produce steel and metal profiles according to production specifications
• Perform full machine changeovers including tooling adjustments, roll alignments, and pass calibration
• Interpret and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machine settings and product specs
• Adjust roll pressures, guides, shears, and feed speeds for optimal material handling and forming quality
• Conduct first-article inspections and use advanced measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures, height gauges) to verify dimensional accuracy
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve forming defects (e.g., bowing, twisting, oil canning, edge waviness)
• Coordinate with maintenance teams on preventative maintenance schedules and equipment condition reporting
• Collaborate with quality control and engineering teams to optimize product flow and improve forming processes
• Assist in the training and mentoring of Roll Form Machinist I and II team members
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area in accordance with 5S and Lean Manufacturing practices
• Adhere strictly to all plant safety policies and OSHA regulations

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical certification or apprenticeship in metalworking or machine operations preferred
• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience with roll forming machines, including advanced setup and production support
• Strong knowledge of roll forming equipment
• Proficiency with tooling alignment, roll pass design, and custom profile forming
• Familiarity with material types including hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized, stainless steel, and aluminum
• Advanced mechanical aptitude with the ability to read mechanical drawings, shop prints, and QC specs
• Ability to use inspection equipment with high precision
• Solid understanding of manufacturing KPIs (OEE, scrap rate, cycle time, yield)
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities in high-pressure environments
• Willingness to work on a team and train peers on machinery. Ability to work independently
• Willingness to work overtime as required by production needs

Preferred Skills

• Experience with PLC-controlled roll forming lines and inline punching or cutoff systems
• Basic understanding of statistical process control (SPC) and continuous improvement concepts
• Welding or fabrication experience is a plus
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
