Job Summary

Performs highly skilled machining & mechanical work inspecting, repairing, rebuilding, and installing critical / large plant equipment (turbine rotors, generators, pumps, fans, etc.). Some components can weigh 90 tons or more. This is a lead position that requires minimal or no supervison.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

1.) Operates machine shop and portable machine tools typically to perform rough turning, boring, drilling and threading operations, holding tolerances of +/- 0.010". Has the ability to interpret and work from simple prints & specifications as well as perform supporting measurement activities.
2.) Performs all work in accordance with shop safety and quality standards; completes required paper work and facilitates appropriate record keeping. Has skilled abilities needed to maintain shop equipment.
3.) Fabricates jigs and fixtures to support shop work load.
4.) Performs precision fitting of component parts & performs alignment of rotating equip.
5.) Utilizes all manner of hand and power tools, performs rigging to lift components. Interfaces with outside resources assigned to assist in the work.
6.) Demonstrates the ability to perform work at CMS or on-site at plants with direction /support from a Machinist 1st class, Machinist 2nd class or supervisor.
7.) Reports irregularities or abnormal conditions. Take notes and keep records as directed.
8.) Performs all work in accordance with safety regulations and acceptable shop processes and practices.
9.) Support AEP's cultural goals and expectations.
10.) Performs similar or less skilled work, as assigned.

Third class machinist must demonstrate the skills and abilities contained within the job description or satisfactory progression toward these skills and abilities prior to the end of the probationary period; and also demonstrate the skills and ability required for promotion to second class within one year from the initial hiring date.

Perform all types of work involved in the construction, maintenance, rebuild, removal, operation, testing and inspection of energized or de-energized generation, transmission and distribution facilities. Assist in responding to emergency call-outs on station trouble and coordinating prompt restoration of service to customers as required.
