Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect underground facilities, conductors, fixtures and structures on de-energized circuits and, when qualified, energized circuits up to 600 volts.
  • Work on energized lines up to 260 volts during initial six months; progress to 600 volts under supervision.
  • Operate test equipment (volt-amp meters, ground meggers, continuity testers) for lines up to 600 volts.
  • Tagging procedures and switching of energized circuits; inspect and troubleshoot lines.
  • Supervise etc. and direct the work of assistants as needed.
  • Build/erect equipment mountings and overhead transformer installations.

Job Summary

Perform all types of work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. All items apply to overhead and underground, as applicable. Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below. The Lineman A builds upon the skills, abilities and knowledge learned as a Lineman B (or equivalent).

Job Description

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Successful candidate will reside within 30 miles to the Longview Service Center.

What You’ll Do
Essential Job Functions and Tasks
  • Assemble, install, maintain, remove and competently inspect underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures and other associated equipment on de-energized and grounded overhead and underground facilities under immediate or general supervision.

  • During the first six months in this classification, shall be capable of working on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under general supervision.

  • Assist with work on conductors and equipment energized at secondary voltages to 600 volts under immediate supervision of higher classification.

  • After six months in this classification, shall be capable of working on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts under general supervision.

  • Use volt-amp meters, ground meggers, continuity testers and other electrical test equipment associated with line work on voltages up to 600 volts.

  • Apply various kinds of insulating protective equipment on facilities energized only at voltage qualified to work on.

  • Under direct supervision, the employee may operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers, and other sectionalizing devices, refuse line and transformer devices, test de-energized lines and equipment, and place or remove grounds.

  • During this time frame, the employee may progress from direct supervision to immediate and finally general supervision as skill level dictates.

  • Build and erect equipment mountings (such as regulator and transformer platforms) and build overhead transformer installations.

  • Conduct proper tagging procedures while performing switching of energized circuits. Perform inspection and trouble‑shooting of lines.

  • Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned. Direct the work of employees assigned to assist

  • Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience defined as: successful completion of a one year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience, or an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience.

  • Valid Class A CDL is required

Must have the ability and desire to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of the key job (Lineman A) in this family and be qualified through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Company. Must acquire within such time frame as determined by the Company, the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the next higher classification in the line of progression, or vacate the current job classification. A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.

External candidates must have a minimum of 4 years line work experience and successful completion of the journeyman pre‑assessment.

Perform all types of work involved in the construction, maintenance, rebuild, removal, operation, testing and inspection of energized or de-energized generation, transmission and distribution facilities. Assist in responding to emergency call‑outs on station trouble and coordinating prompt restoration of service to customers as required. Safely perform highly skilled work in the maintaining, repairing, inspecting, installing, rebuilding, construction, and correcting the causes of trouble that develops in all types of power plant equipment and structures. Actively participate in continuous improvement activities.

Perform work associated with the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of all protection and control devices and related equipment under direct, immediate or general supervision. Such devices and equipment includes but is not limited to digital relays, electromechanical relays, intelligent electronic devices, Station Disturbance Recorders (SDR), digital fault recorders (DFR), oscillographs and event recorders, RTU's and station SCADA systems, statistical load metering, telemetering and transducers. Additionally, install, maintain and operate all power line carriers (PLC), tone, pilot wire, fiber and associated P&C communications equipment. Respond to emergency call‑outs and coordinate prompt restoration of service to customers as required.
