Job summary

Instrument Development Company in Mukwonago, WI is seeking a Machinist to learn basic 3-axis programming and CAD drawing under supervision. This second shift role focuses on setup under guidance and progressing skills in tooling and MOM routing.

Qualified candidates have a high school diploma or GED, with 2 years of related experience (4 preferred). The job requires ability to read GD&T drawings, perform basic measurements, and maintain safety and quality standards in a light-to-moderate noise

Responsibilities

• Read refractometer to maintain coolant levels.
• Set up and adjust work holding devices; load program and make minor edits.

• Identify dull tooling before catastrophic failure.
• Complete paperwork (Job Traveler, VISTA).
• Follow cleanup and housekeeping procedures.
• Comply with quality and safety regulations.

Summary

Under the supervision of the Team Leader and General Manager, the machinist will begin to set‑up under proper instruction and learn basic 3‑axis programs; draw a part in CAD.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Read refractometer to maintain proper concentration and coolant levels.
• In addition to setting tools and making offsets in tool page (Level‑2), load a program and establish work holding positions and make minor program edits.
• Edit individual tool feed rates to establish SFM (Surface Feet per Minute) and related chip loads.
• Read, interpret, and understand blueprint specifications to methods of manufacturing (MOM) per routing.
• Identify when to replace dull tooling before catastrophic failure.
• Complete any and all paperwork as required; Job Traveler, VISTA, etc.
• Follow all clean up and housekeeping procedures.
• Comply with all quality and safety regulations and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to set‑up and adjust work holding devices.
• General understanding of machine types and their applications.
• Ability to understand and comprehend industrial math.
• Strong knowledge of technical GD&T drawing and reading skills.
• Ability to understand quality standards and gauging.
• Basic understanding of hard gauging checks on granite table.

Education and/or Experience

• High School diploma or GED; some post‑secondary education in the trades preferred.
• At least 2 years of related work experience; 4 years preferred.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds intermittently.
• Ability to stand 100% of workday and occasionally bend or twist.
