Job summary

SMS group is seeking a Machinist for the 2nd shift in Washington, PA. The role requires 1+ years of manual and CNC machining, with vertical and horizontal lathe experience.

Set up and operate CNC mills/lathe units including Heidenhain, Fanuc, Siemens controls, and manual mills and lathes; precise measurement and blueprint reading are essential. Applicants should be safety-minded, punctual, and able to work with others; forklift and crane training will be provided on site.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of machining experience (manual and CNC).
• Vertical and Horizontal Lathe experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret technical drawings.
• Excellent attendance and safety awareness.
• Team player able to follow directions and work with others.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC Horizontal Mills (Heidenhain), CNC Vertical Mills (Fanuc), CNC Vertical Lathe (Siemens), CNC Horizontal Lathe (Siemens/Fanuc).
• Operate manual Vertical Mill (Bridgeport), manual Vertical Lathe, manual Horizontal Mill and Horizontal Lathe (various brands).
• Use measuring devices: tape measure, micrometers, calipers, depth mics.
• Read and interpret blueprints; ensure part dimensions meet specifications.
• Report unsafe conditions and follow safety policies; forklift/crane training on-site.

Summary:

*Steady 2nd Shift * Must have 1+ years of machining experience, manual and CNC. Vertical and Horizontal Lathe experience needed.

The right candidate will

• Be able to perform set-ups and operations on various machines such as:
  • CNC Horizontal Mills (Heidenhain Control)
  • CNC Vertical Mills (Fanuc Control)
  • CNC Vertical Lathe (Siemens Control)
  • CNC Horizontal Lathe (Siemens Control)
  • CNC Horizontal Lathe (Fanuc Control)
  • Manual Vertical Mill (Bridgeport)
  • Manual Vertical Lathe (6 Foot)
  • Manual Horizontal Mill (Supermill)
  • Horizontal Lathe (Poreba)
• Have experience with using measuring devices such as:
  • Tape Measure
  • Inside/Outside Mics
  • Calipers
  • Depth Mics
• Understanding of and ability to read blueprints
• Ability to work with others and follow directions
• Have excellent attendance
• Be aware of surrounds and safety of others
• Report any and all unsafe conditions immediately
• Hazard Communications- Knows/understands hazard of the job assignment before starting
• Basic understanding of safety policies and procedures
• Ability to operate a fork truck (training will be provided on site)
• Ability to operate a crane safely (training will be provided on site)
  • Lift equipment safely
  • Knowing where disconnect switches are
  • Perform inspection of crane before use
  • Inspect straps and chains before use
  • Checking any and all rigging before performing lift
