SMS group is seeking a Machinist to set up and operate CNC and manual machinery, with emphasis on running a 2-axis Mazak lathe. The ideal candidate will read blueprints, understand Mazatrol, and maintain precise measurements while keeping a clean, safe workspace.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Experience with CNC and manual machines.
• Familiarity with Mazatrol and G-code is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC and manual machines, including Mazak/Okuma.
• Run a 2-axis Mazak lathe as the primary focus.
• Interpret blueprints and edit G-code as needed.
• Maintain a safe, organized work area and comply with SOPs.
• Train new or junior employees.

Summary

The Machinist will set up and operate a variety of machines including, Mazak, Okuma, and manual lathes. This position will mainly be running a 2 axis Mazak lathe.

The Right Candidate Will

• Be a safety minded person who enjoys hands on work.
• Ability to set up and operate both CNC and manual machinery for use in metal working applications.
• Understand Mazatrol
• Understanding and able to edit G code as needed is a plus
• Integrated Renishaw probing
• Complete SOP travelers and document daily activities.
• Interpret assembly and blue prints drawings.
• Follow proper safety precautions.
• Must be courteous and work well with others.
• Ability to properly rig heavy machinery and equipment for use with overhead crane.
• Ability to train new or other employees to perform same job responsibilities
• Maintain an organized and clean work area.
• Drug free, safety minded and maintain an excellent attendance record

What You'll Need

• Converting metric and standard measurements.
• Basic Trigonometry functions.
• Ability to use and read precise measuring tools.
• Ability to learn and understand critical processes and operations in assigned areas.
