Job Description
  1. Follow instructions to machine, fabricate, or assemble parts according to print and operation sheet specifications, using conventional and CNC machines including lathes, horizontal and vertical machining centers.
  2. Pre-set and install proper cutting tools, select appropriate speeds, feeds, and depth of cut to maintain quality standards.
  3. Inspect cutting tools for wear and make adjustments during production to ensure quality.
  4. Interpret CAD data, prints, and sketches for fabrication, following written and verbal instructions.
  5. Perform secondary operations such as deburring and straightening during the machine cycle.
  6. Inspect parts during production using measuring devices to ensure conformity to specifications.
  7. Perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment and maintain coolant levels.
  8. Assist with cross-training and department procedures as needed.
  9. Recommend and implement process improvements to reduce cycle times.
  10. Select and load CNC programs to ensure proper machine operation.
  11. Verify gages and inspection equipment are correct for tasks.
Basic Qualifications
  1. At least 2 years of experience or equivalent education, with specialized training and ability to meet production standards with minimal defects.
  2. Knowledge of basic shop math, including metric conversions.
  3. Experience operating CNC machines in a cellular manufacturing environment.
  4. Experience machining steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, understanding speeds and feeds.
  5. Proficient in measuring equipment and verifying conformance to specifications.
  6. Knowledge of M & G code for troubleshooting and editing CNC programs.
Desired Skills
  1. Experience setting up and operating CNC horizontal, vertical machining centers, and lathes.
  2. Proficiency in pre-setting cutting tools and fixtures.
  3. Experience editing CNC programs, especially with FANUC controls.
  4. Knowledge of GD&T and programming with GibbsCAM.
  5. Experience with solid modeling and performing complex machining calculations.
