Job Description
- Follow instructions to machine, fabricate, or assemble parts according to print and operation sheet specifications, using conventional and CNC machines including lathes, horizontal and vertical machining centers.
- Pre-set and install proper cutting tools, select appropriate speeds, feeds, and depth of cut to maintain quality standards.
- Inspect cutting tools for wear and make adjustments during production to ensure quality.
- Interpret CAD data, prints, and sketches for fabrication, following written and verbal instructions.
- Perform secondary operations such as deburring and straightening during the machine cycle.
- Inspect parts during production using measuring devices to ensure conformity to specifications.
- Perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment and maintain coolant levels.
- Assist with cross-training and department procedures as needed.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to reduce cycle times.
- Select and load CNC programs to ensure proper machine operation.
- Verify gages and inspection equipment are correct for tasks.
Basic Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience or equivalent education, with specialized training and ability to meet production standards with minimal defects.
- Knowledge of basic shop math, including metric conversions.
- Experience operating CNC machines in a cellular manufacturing environment.
- Experience machining steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, understanding speeds and feeds.
- Proficient in measuring equipment and verifying conformance to specifications.
- Knowledge of M & G code for troubleshooting and editing CNC programs.
Desired Skills
- Experience setting up and operating CNC horizontal, vertical machining centers, and lathes.
- Proficiency in pre-setting cutting tools and fixtures.
- Experience editing CNC programs, especially with FANUC controls.
- Knowledge of GD&T and programming with GibbsCAM.
- Experience with solid modeling and performing complex machining calculations.
