Machine Shop, Skilled Position
Set up and operate CNC, manual, semi-automatic, or automatic machines individually or simultaneously. Work to specified tolerances using accepted methods and practices. Perform inspection and document results as required. Maintain tooling to minimize interruptions. Occasionally suggest input and methods to increase production capabilities, working closely with manufacturing personnel. Perform minor preventative maintenance as required. Work as part of a team or as a standalone operator. Perform other duties as required.
Requires skill and judgment in operating CNC and manual equipment, setting up, and laying out work. Calculate and set machine offsets, check parts for conformance, and adapt or modify methods, CNC programs, or setups after consulting a supervisor as needed.
Ability to read drawings, job layouts, and specifications. Use precision measuring instruments and shop mathematics, including working with decimal dimensions. Must have thorough training in basic machining operations and be familiar with NC/CNC machine operations across various machines. Knowledge of cutting qualities of different metals. High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferably two to four years of manual and NC/CNC machining experience.
Willing to work with minimal supervision, either individually or as part of a team, after proper training. Communicate problems and solutions effectively. Make decisions within general procedures and practices. Proactively seek out next assignments and move to appropriate machines.
Stand for extended periods; operate one or multiple machines. May require frequent lifting and handling of medium to heavy castings, with chain hoists available for heavy lifting. Some work in awkward positions, involving pushing, pulling, and heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Use hands for handling objects and controls, and perform reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as focus adjustment.
Work environments may be noisy, dusty, and hot or cold depending on the season, with exposure to flying chips, heat, fumes, and outside weather conditions. PPE includes steel-toe shoes, hearing protection, eye protection, and masks as necessary.
