Job summary

GP&C is seeking a skilled machinist to join our team in Houston, Texas. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma and have at least 2 years of experience with manual and CNC machines. Responsibilities include performing machine setups, preventative maintenance, and adhering to safety standards in a shop environment.

The role requires strong math skills, ability to read blueprints, and familiarity with CNC programming. Ideal candidates will be team-oriented and maintain a respectful environment with clients and coworkers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with Manual and/or CNC machines.
  • Ability to perform machine setups on various types of machines with moderate assistance.
  • Must read and interpret blueprints and drawings.

  • Maintain work area and equipment in clean condition.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machines.

Skills

Job description

  • Adhere to all engineering instruction, standard operation procedures, and all departmental procedures.
  • Able to perform machine set ups on manual lathes, manual mills, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and Waterjet machines for all programs and part types including production and/or engineering parts with moderate to light assistance.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on machines as required per the company P.M. Program.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings for all processes and programs.
  • Knowledge of the following elements is expected:
    • Machine Safety.
    • Job orders.
    • Standard measuring tools including, but not limited to, Micrometers (O.D. & I.D.), Calipers, Bore Gages, Protractors, Height Gages and Depth Gages.
    • Verifying gage calibration.
    • Machining fixturing for setups.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming/languages (G/M Codes and Mazatrol) and knowledge of how to create and edit programs.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience:
    • 2+ years’ experience working with Manual and/or CNC machines.
    • Assist other departments as necessary with approval from your management team.
  • Skills:
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Math skills and ability to use handheld measuring tools.

  • Attendance and Punctuality: Be at the workstation ready to start work at the beginning of the work period and remain on the job until the close of the work period. Be punctual for all appointments. In areas where required, remain on the job until a replacement is present.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • The employee is frequently required to stand for an extended period of time.
  • walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Required to work in a shop environment which may include hot or cold temperatures, humidity, high noise levels and hazardous fluids such as coolants and lubricants.
  • Willing and able to machine and handle a wide variety of materials, including but not limited to, Fiberglass Composites, Plastics, Metals and other Alloys.
